I have immensely enjoyed reading the conversations at MOL - and have learned from the tips and the responses in ways that I could never comprehend from the label on a product or an owners' manual. This looks like a great place to listen in, to join in, and to be! I'm hoping to find some Prius owners here, too.

Ocean spray in the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur areas, dust from indiscretions in mountain and desert road choices, snow, general car care neglect - these generate most of my concerns. Thanks for sharing expertise!

We've had the SoCal Prius club to Meguiar's at least once, maybe twice, you work on these cars just like any other car.

Evaluate the condition of the paint
Choose the right product
Use good technique

For most people,

• Wash the car with a quality car wash
• Clay the car if you feel little bumps on the paint after your wash and dry the car
• Use a paint cleaner to remove swirls if you see swirls in your paint evaluation and you don't want swirls in the paint. Understand that clear coats scratch easily so if you remove the swirls you'll always have to take extra care of the paint or they'll just get put back in, that means you have to wash the car yourself you can't take it to any kind of car wash unless it's a professional detailer that you hire to wash the car just like you would wash the car if you had the inclination.
• Polish the car if you really like working on the paint and want to maximize the gloss, otherwise you can skip this step.
• Apply a coat or two of your favorite wax.
• Use a quick detailer and a microfiber to remove LIGHT dust, fingerprints and smudges in-between regular washing.

Hello Jeannie, Welcome to MOL.

According to the title of your thread it looks like you are willing to travel. Although you are a few hours away from Meguiar's in Irvine, if you came down for a Thursday night Open Garage and stayed for a Saturday detailing 101 Class, you would be set with a good plan for taking care of that Prius in the future.

At the Open Garage you get to try any of Meguiar's products on your Prius and get profession recommendations of what to use along with hands-on instruction on the proper way to use the products from Mike Phillips or Mike Stoops.

Just something to consider.

He got rid of his Prius. He drives an eclipse now but he might still be able to help.
