So when is it appropriate to use ColorX?

First time using Meguiar's products and I was extremely pleased with the 1 layer of Gold Class Wax and read somewhere on this forum that adding a layer of Gold Glass over NXT will really bring out that deep gloss and wet look.

Thank you very much in advance to Murr1525 and Marc08EX!

ColorX is appropriate for maintenance details.. It's a mild 1 step cleaner wax as Mat mentioned. If you really don't have swirls to remove but you just want to clean the paint up.

I like ColorX for a quick detail.

    Say

    1. Wash
    2. Clay if needed
    3. ColorX
    4. Wax

Layering different waxes is up to you. Just give it a shot, or do different panels different ways and see if you tell any difference.

There isn't really anything "wrong" with the Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound, per se, it's just that it's a bit of an old school product that doesn't play well with modern, scratch prone clear coats. But on old single stage lacquer paints, which were pretty much standard back when this product was introduced, it can do wonders. Being "old tech" or even "old school" doesn't make it "bad", just maybe not the right match for current surface technology. We could say the same thing about a couple of our products, especially when used by hand instead of by rotary like they were designed to be used.

We'll let you in on a little secret: when we do buffer demos at Barrett-Jackson and other events, we need paint with swirls in it to do a proper demo. Let's face it, if the paint is perfect and we do a demo, we prove nothing. But since we do many demos a day, we have to create our own swirls before we can correct them. We tend to do that with these "old school" products, whether ours or theirs, or even with a wool pad pretty well loaded with dried compound. It makes the paint look pretty horrid, but it makes for a great demo. And what do we use to remove these self inflicted defects? Ultimate Compound.

So don't let the word "compound" scare you. As long as you use it correctly you'll be perfectly fine with it. Just avoid old cotton towels, don't scrub in a tiny little spot for a long period of time, and don't let it dry on the surface and you should get excellent results.

Re: Tips for removing swirls by hand with SMA Technology

I will do my first detailing for a few days over the weekend and early next week. I have a black car and I want to get rid of those swirls badly. My approach will be wash, clay, scratch X, Ultimate polish and finally Ultimate Wax. I also have some Ultimate Compound that I will apply on a few, deeper scratches. I will
be using Meguiars yellow pads and premium microfibre.

    Wish me luck!

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Will you be working by hand?

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.
