Best Wheel Cleaner For Rotas?

I went to buy some wheel cleaner tonight, and picked up Meguiars Hot Wheels, to go with all the other Meguiars only stuff I use!

I was reading the back, and it said dont use on powder coated wheels.

I just bought a set of black Rota Slipstreams, and im not sure the coating, but I think they are powder coated. Its the factory finish. Ive done some Googling and I cannot find what they are coated with.

So anyways, if anyone knows if they are PC'ed, what can I use on them? They have a ton of brake dust from the neglectful previous owner.

Or will Hot Wheels be ok?

i would just go with car wash soap and water to be on the safe side until you know for sure or not.

Yes, I believe I bought the All Wheel cleaner.

Its pink.

I just saw the blue Aluminum, which says it is PC safe, unfortunately having a hard time finding it locally!

Just rained for a week straight, and snowed for a day. Car needs washed like yesterday

Some Big Lots seem to have the Multi-Piece wheel wash.... Mine has a load of it. It is the same as the Aluminum wheel wash.

i guess you could try the Multi Piece Wheel wash if you can find it, or stick to soap and water.

For this reason, that is why I like using apc or car wash soap on the rims. It is gentle enough not to inflict any harm, but strong enough to get the job done.

In cases like this when you aren't sure what the surface really is, the best thing to do is contact the manufacturer and ask them. This is NOT something you want to speculate on. Far too often we see cases of people selecting the wrong product for their wheels, sometimes with disastrous results. It's always nice to see people asking these questions before just jumping in, but those Slipstreams are nice wheels and I know you don't want to mess them up.

If they turn out to be powder coated then soap and water is probably going to be your best choice. If they are painted and clear coated then Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner should be just fine. Just remember to always work on one wheel at a time, and never allow the cleaner to self dry on the wheel. Rinse thoroughly before moving on to the next wheel.

I used to use the all wheel cleaner because it worked so good.

However, I started to notice it was hurting some of the components in the wheel well like calipers, etc. So I stopped!!! Not much harm done at all, but glad I stopped.

Now I use the aluminum wheel cleaner, with a brush, since this cleaner is very mild, it really isn't a risk. Much better to use it with a brush than be sorry.

I used Gold Class soap and water with a wheel brush.

Worked amazingly! I still need to see what they are and take another avenue, some of the stuff wont lift off, but still looks amazing

thats good to hear, you dont want to use just any wheel cleaner and then damage your wheels

One last question, would APC be considered generally safe for use on wheels?

Friend of mine said he was cleaning his tires with it, but it cleaned the wheels well too.

I would imagine you could at a low dilution but it wont do much more than car wash soap and water
