Thanks to all who attended !!!

Everyone had great questions, and really jumped into the hands-on portion.

Just remember, respect the machine and practice makes perfect.

Thanks again for another fun Saturday @ Meguiar's !

Thumbs up Re: Advanced Class #5 - 3.21.09

The class was outstanding! You can tell Mr. Pennington and Mr. Stoops LOVE their jobs.

The "Trial" (vinyl??) 3M tape we were able to use was fantastic. Please let the forum know when it's available to the public. I for one will buying a lot of it. Going around curves was SOOOOO easy with this stuff!

Once again, thank you Meguiar's for hosting a very informative class!

Cause its a rental that will be put out of service in a year or so. Also we didn't sand it flat, just a little bit to get used to sanding.

"Not safe" doesn't mean you cant do it, just that it's "not safe" or recommended because your removing some of that UV protection that the CC offers.

Good questions, and Ryan nailed it. We use rentals for several reasons.

    1) They are always in bad shape
    2) It is more realistic to work on cars than flat panels due to the curves and contours a real car offers.
    3) We limit how much sanding is done and with what grit we allow class members to use. We only remove .2 - .4 mils which is well within the specs of OEM factory repair.

Most people, if not all, when asking if you can "sand" factory paint are asking about removing orange peel. In order to do that, you would be removing way to much material and get into a situation where there is not enough clear left behind. Not to mention the high possibility of burning through...

We spend time in the class talking through this entire concept.

    Hope this helps !

Although it was a long drive from the Phoenix area, and had a close call with a semi in the fog on 60 - it was well worth the drive over!

Thanks to M&M for all their knowledge and experience, and the fact they share it with us!

Does the rule of not wetsanding factory paints apply to single stage paints also?
Too much of a good thing is even better!
