  • '05 Neon - Engine Detail

    Gang,

Here's a coupla pictures of my Neon engine bay.

    Typical Process:
    Rinse engine bay
Liberal amounts of All Purpose Cleaner 7:1
    Soak for a few
    Agitate with brush
    Rinse thoroughly (flood rinse).
Shop Vac on blower, knocked excess water out of crevices.
    Dressing: Mirror Glaze M40

Before:Not too bad, but wanted a clean engine bay, just changed oil too! Just over 60,000 miles on this car!

    Afters:

Gang, be careful when cleaning your engine bay, newer cars have electronics that don't like to get wet, cover anything you don't think should get water. I did not cover anything on this detail, I avoided direct pressure of water on the alternator and main computer and fuse/relay boxes. Just be careful on these things!

Also, do a test spot with your cleaner, too harsh a cleaner can make things worse!

    Thanks for looking

Yeah, but your's is one I tried to buy when we bought this one......

But for the price of ours new ($9,499), we could've bought two Neon SXT's compared to the new SRT.

We got lucky, they were liquidating them in '06 for brand new '05's.

I unchecked the DISO and took her home with nasty inside and out windows! Been fun since.

Show us that bad boy too!

      Love the SRT's

        Great job Aaron!!!

Also, thank you for placing a warning in your post. Some vehicles do not play nicely when it comes to washing their engines. If a person chooses to wash their engine, they should do some research first to see if any other people have had issues on their particular make or model.

Not only that Tim, if it's a relative/client/friend you won't know what kind of job they've done to it on the engine that you could potentially damage.

I think the research is a great idea but also try to "study" the engine to search for aftermarket installed artifact or similar things.

                    I forgot in my warning:

DO NOT SPRAY COLD WATER ON A HOT ENGINE!!!!!!

Broken blocks, heads anything that is metal could break by putting cold, cold water on the engine.

I have sprayed running engines at the car wash as the cooling system is moving and keeping the engine cool.

But please be careful with that.

And!!! Thanks for the comments. The little Neon is pretty nice when it's cleaned up. It's been a harsh winter with the road cinders and what not, I am doing a full interior right now. Got it mostly done, doing the seats now. Gotta love APC+.

                    Thanks again
