  • Product not showing up on surface??

Hey Guys, maybe somebody can help answer a few questions. I recieved my brand new G110 yesterday and new 8006 polishing pads yesterday so I decided to get to work on my dads BMW 745i.

After reading MANY threads about 83, I did as I had read. I put 3 pea sized amounts of 83 on the 8006 pad, put the G110 on speed 5 and started my passes.

Much to my surprise there is no product getting smear within my 16x16 test spot. How come? I'm I not putting enough product?

Its almost as though the pad is absorbing all the product before it get onto the surface???

Maybe I'm putting too much pressure?

    What am I doing wrong?

    You must prep the pad
Alway spray some QD on the pad
    And here's a thread

Actually i did mist the pad with QD.

However I did not put a big "X" of product on the pad, just 3 pea sized amounts of product (M83)

Did you "kiss" the area with the pad? By this I mean tap the pad in the area you are working in. This helps spread out the product.

Nope I did not. In the thread I read about 83, it said to just apply product and go!

            Try using more product...

Definitely go with more product as shown in the two images Mike Phillips posted. Starting out with just 3 pea sized drops of M83 is simply not enough. Of course, you don't want to end up on the opposite end of the scale and saturate the pad, so you want to take steps to avoid that as you go along.

Remember, you are working with a diminishing abrasive in M83 so just because the pad eventually becomes "wet" with product doesn't mean you still have cut available to you. You will want to clean that pad on a regular basis by firmly holding a terry towel against the face of the pad and switching the machine on. This will force product out of the pad and into the towel, and doing so regularly will greatly eliminate the tendency for M83 to dust. But even then, you'll want more than 3 pea sized drops of M83 to work with.

Now, when and if you give M105 a try, you will find that less product can be used, especially once the face of the pad has been fully covered with product.

Does this method apply when using M83.

                  As everyone has been saying:

You have to prep the pad with a Quik Detailer Spray, especially on new pads!

Apply a Circle or X as shown in Mike's Picture on the Pad on the use each session.
When applying the product (M83) after the first section, then move on to the 3 Pea size method.

The pad was absorbing the product, you have to use more, no matter what product.

The Way you touch the paint after applying takes some practice and experience. But there are methods to apply the product before turning on the machine.

Do something similar to what Mike posted the first time, THEN for follow up passes you can get away with a few dabs of product since the pad will be somewhat saturated.

Yes. This would apply to most products except a finishing wax as the goal with applying a finishing wax or paint sealant is to coat over the surface a thin layer, not work ample product against the paint.

                        Correctamundo...

We try to show this in our classes, that is when you first start out you need the circle or X pattern because your pad is dry. Another option would be to use the KB method to first prime your pad with product.

Either method will work although priming the pad first will actually do a better job as far as getting an equal amount of product over the entire surface of the pad before starting.

Personal preference on how you want to start out.

Then after you've broken your pad in you can cut down on the amount of product you apply to the surface of the pad.
