When he complained, the offical response was "Enzo always said your paying for the engine and car was free, how does the engine run?"

The car was detailed by a professional 3rd party (me) and now is 99% flawless or greater.
I'll take a classic American car, thanks.

I'm sure you did a wonderful job, but I would make them do it on their dime not mine.

I have watched a couple of videos of how Ferraris are built. Needless to say, the emphasis of a Ferrari is on performance and styling. Material quality and workmanship are definitely of concern to the enterprise, while environmentally-friendly material such as eco-paint and bio-degradable plastics are used extensively. With that said, swirl reduction is and has never been the top priority of Ferrari. The automated car wash is also eco-friendly. The water recycling system operates in such a way that a fixed quantity of water supply in the reservoir could wash up to 100 vehicles before needing a flush. Ferrari would much rather save a couple trees than to spend any more money making their cars look great out the door.

Let's face it. Ferrari is a rare good and most of the time there are more demands than supplies. I don't think finding scratches on a Ferrari would deter anyone from buying them gain.

Yes, the Italians do things their way and are unapologetic about it!

With attitudes like that it is sad that they are held in such high esteem.

Re: Myth: 300k cars look good from the factory

Ferrari does inspect paint for noticeable defects and will attempt a correction before the car leaves the factory - this was shown in the same documentary previously mentioned in this thread.

Now, if some buffing takes place and there is no concern for a "perfect finish" then this sort of thing is going to happen. But it isn't just Ferrari. Earlier this year we were in Orlando, FL to do a few seminars for the Rolls Royce Owner's Club meet and on the Friday evening of the event we were treated to a wonderful dinner at the local Rolls Royce / Lamborghini dealer. Sitting in the showroom was a brand new Rolls Royce Phantom sedan with a sticker price fully 1/3 greater than this Ferrari. Many of those who had taken our seminars earlier in the week approached and, with some level of excitement and dismay, asked if they were really seeing what they thought they were. Yes, this brand spanking new $430,000 car did indeed have noticeable swirls in the (metallic) black paint - easily seen at night in low light by people who just learned what a swirl/cobweb is.

I was just at a cruise in with about 40 or 50 cars. Classics, customs, and sports cars of all types. I did not see one that had even a relatively clear finish. I was also looking through a book of 1950's autos and in the few pictures where they had some sun shots, they were swirled worse than my daily driver. I love it, it means that there are tons of potential customers!
