  • Aluminum Wheel Cleaner?

I bought it for customer's cars that I cannot use wheel brightener on. Would it be safe for use on my stainless steel and laquer painted wheels? I am extremely concerned about using wheel cleaners on my painted wheels.

    Re: Aluminum Wheel Cleaner?

It should be fine, I use the Meguiar's all wheel cleaner on my machined clear coated (paint as you would know) with no ill effects.

Meguiar's Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Cleaner is the mildest of the cleaners.

I have gobs of the old Multi Piece which is the the new Aluminum if I remember correctly.....

But hang tight hopefully others chime in.

Yeah,i think would be okay....i'd think it would be the mildest.

I know what you mean...I'm a bit cautious with wheel cleaners aswell. I try not to use them if it's not needed.

Before I changed the color of my wheels from white to silver(powder coating),i used to use a wheel cleaner(not meguiar's) on them. It did make them dull. Not because of misuse, but overuse.

CC? My wheels are single stage, that is why I am concerned.

These are the wheels in question:

            Should be fine with those.....

However, start least aggressive first as you know with good ol' car wash

            Wheel/Tire looks great BTW

Miss the Oldsmobiles, I had a 1973 Cutlass with Rocket 350 that my parents bought brand new when I was a kid. I kept up with an IROC Z over our local mountain pass, he said he can beat me on the flats, I told him he had an extra gear in his tranny ha ha.

Calais, what can you tell us about the trim rings on those wheels - are they clear coated or bare aluminum? If bare, you definitely want to stick to the Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Wash.

You mention that the painted center portion is single stage paint. That's pretty unusual (then again, the car has been around for a couple of years!), but if it gives you any concern at all, the by all means err on the side of caution and stay with the Aluminum Wheel Wash.

And always remember - work on a cool surface, and fully clean one wheel at a time before moving on to the next.

                Uncoated aluminum.

The whole car is single stage, the wheels included. So the aluminum wheel cleaner shouldn't harm the paint? Aside from car wash soap (which doesn't get the job done as well as I would have wished) aluminum cleaner would be the least aggressive method, right?

Two: one is an anti-theft lug-nut while the others came with the car. The one on the right is only oxidized. I don't want my original Oldsmobile color matched wheels to disappear off my car as they known to around these parts.

                        Re: Aluminum Wheel Cleaner?

There should be no issues. I've used the whole range of Wheel Cleaners (All, Chrome, Aluminium) on painted rims and had absolutely no problems. And, as it was already said earlier, Aluminium Wheel Cleaner is the mildest of them all. If you are still concerned, you can use Extra on rims. I did that too with no problems at all.
