Nice, it looks like the rotary backing plate is similiar to the popular 3M backing plate.

      Hey Michael,

Does the old W65 with the purple plastic have a 6" diameter?

Does this new one also have a 6" diameter?

Diameter has not changed for either part number and, yes, the W65 is a 6" diameter backing plate.

Out of curiosity, why doesn't Megs offer a 4" or 5.5" pad with a respective BP?

oh. sorry. I cant recall ever seeing a thread on here about it. Then again, I never REALLY searched haha.

I just know that I prefer 5.5" pads over 6.5, but I love the megs maroon pad! the Velcro section is nice and stiff which is what I feel sets it apart from the other manufacturers. IMO, it keeps the pad from bunching up and distributes pressure much more evenly.

I love these new backing plates. They are pricey, but they are far superior to all the other ones I have.

By the way, I use the W65 with my 6.5" foam pads and I love it! I even got an adapter to use it on my DA.

I don't think it's a big deal that Meguiar's decides not to sell 4" or 5.5" pads. They probably have many good business reasons not to. If you want 4" pads, there are plenty out there. There are a number of successful professional detailers here and they all have one thing in common... they do not use one brand of products exclusively.
