Hate to say it, but that roof really does look like clear coat failure.
One question though - why so set on So1o? It's really designed as a system for buffing out fresh paint. You'd probably be better off just picking up a collection of pads via mail order and some Ultimate Compound at your local Pep Boys or Wal-Mart. Don't underestimate the power of UC - it may be a consumer product that you can pick up for a mere $10/bottle, but it makes use of the same SMAT technology found in M105, etc and does an outstanding job. It has a very long buffing cycle so it's incredibly user friendly, especially for someone just getting into machine polishing.
If you can take Mark Kleis up on his offer, by all means do it. He's a great guy and really knows his stuff. Assuming you two can set aside your old high school rivalries!!
