  • Advance Detail Chile-99 Expedition (mini detail))

Hi Guys i wanted to show a little work i did today, woke up late and didn't have anything to do on saturday so i worked on the truck for the day. it was super cold today, and the weather is getting bad (snow or rain tomorrow) but i had to try the new Ultimate compound and other things i had.

    Steps:
    Wash:2BM-Microfiber Sponge, and Dawn.
    Decontamination: Megs Mild Clay
Compound:UC via Megs Cuting Pad and DA
Polish: E1 Nano Polish with megs finishing pad by DA
    Last Step: Megs m21
Plastics and tires: Hyper Dressing 7:1 (it works great for me @ this dilution) even had it @ 12:1 for interior plastic cleaning, giving great matte int finish.

This is what i started with, very dirty, lots of water spots in paint and glass and unprotected paint..

The paint was really been taken care of (for being a 99 model) and some RIDS, but due to the time and being a daily driver and parked outside it wasnt worth the time for a show car flawless finish. The really bad parts were in the plastic black pillars between the doors

i started with the wheels and tires, first starting wetting down to start loosening the dirt, then a glove pass and hose down.

    Then hose everything down...

on to the body.. again hose the loose dirt off and hand wash via 2BM

then I divided Each panel in half, doing the top half, rinsing mit, and then the botom half, rinsing mit and next top panel.......

    Rinse, suds, repeat!

    Rinse, suds, repeat!!

    then rinse everything down..

i took another mitt (not the ones used for tires) and did lower body and foot steps.

    before:

    After:

    before:

    After:

Filled up another clean bucket and mitt and did the door jambs.

    Rinseee @low pressure...

Took my sponge and went over the full truck once more and rinsed again. just in case i missed a spot.

    Decontamination via clay:

I was so tired after going over the whole truck!! there was almost no contamination but it had alot of paint overspray and the clay did its job nicely.
Driying brought to you by vroom. (cant remember were i bought them from but worked great)

Tires were dried with a microfiber (so not to get swirls ) also all four rims.

After some inspections the paint was great besides some minor scratches

    Before:

i wanted to wet sand but being the edge of the door i just opted to make it less noticeable
    After:

it had a very deep scratch in one of the doors i was able to get it pretty good comparing to how it was.

    now to the plastic pillars:
    Before:

After first pass with UC and DA:

    2nd pass with nano polish

After UC with DA and cutting pad:

    Smile!! Ready for polishing step..

By this time you could imagine how tired i was.. so i didnt take any more pics of the polishing.. on to the wax after being sealed with m21. i used some Detailers quick spray wax from my custom bottles

While that cures lets move on to the good stuff BRAVOO FOR Hyper Dressing (7:1) from another custom bottle made when i was trying my printer

    Before:

    After:

By this time i was REEEAAALYY tired and was getting so cold i couldn't feel my hands and was getting dark. so i buffed the wax with another microfiber and wiped down the Hyper Dressing.

    Final shot:

    My favorite:

it was geting dark and some rain was starting to fall, so i packed up quickly and went home... tomorrow? 97 Suburban!! with swirl heaven. if the weather is good i will be working on it all day, probaby same steps but more passes with the DA and compound due to not having my rotary here yet.
hope you enjoyed and have fun polishing.
    Thanks for stoping by,

    Nice work. Good pics.

Good choice on the plastic pillars. I did the same. My pillars were bad,16 yrs. Rotary(low rpm's),wool pad and fine-cut....less than a minute later...WOW.

Well said, Andy. Not only was detailing the truck a lot of work, so was putting this post together. Great job on both counts, Nelson!

Thanks guys, the pillars turned out great, a couple of minutes with UC and cutting pad then another pass with a polish and done. its one of the first times i document my washing process. so it took longer than usual. iam still waiting for more detailing producs but due to prices here being about 3-4 times than in the US its hard to start.

            forgot a pix...
