Wish I would've seen this a couple hours ago! I started applying ColourX with a Porter Cable 7424XP, white Lake Country CCS Polishing pad on speed 5 using six section passes. Basically I was applying it like a compound or polish!

After a while it occurred to me that this was taking much longer than I expected, so I turned the machine down to speed 3 and basically applied the product like a wax. It cut down on time significantly, but in retrospect I probably went from one extreme to another. How should I apply ColourX with a PC 7424XP - like a compound/polish, like a wax/sealant or a different technique altogether?
Anybody can make a car look good with the right products.

The W68DA backing plate that comes with the G110v2 is roughly 5.75" diameter and is designed to fit perfectly in the recess on the back of our Soft Buff 2.0 pads. You can, of course, swap to any D/A compatible backing plate if you wish to use different pads.

Sort of a combination of the two, actually. Since ColorX is a very capable cleaner wax you do want to give it some time to work, and put a bit of power behind it. It won't correct like a compound or paint cleaner will so you don't need to be that aggressive, but if you just treat it like a pure, non cleaning wax you won't get the full benefit out of the product. Some will apply it with a polishing pad, others with a finishing pad - that will depend on how the paint reacts, how severe the defects are and what your goals are.

Thanks! Just printed it out and laminated it so it won't get ruined in the shop if it gets wet.

Can you use the yellow polishing pad with the M07? Or should I stay with the black finishing pad?

While you could use the yellow polishing pad with M07 it makes more sense to use the black finishing pad. The polishing pad has some cut of its own, which is why it's used in the defect removal stage. But once you're at the point of applying a pure polish you've already gotten the paint corrected to darn near perfection (or so one would assume) so you no longer want any cutting action when applying M07 or similar.

When using a W8207 pad I have been applying very light pressure.

How much pressure should be applied when using a polish? Also should I still tape off in sections?

Light pressure is still all that's called for. Not just the weight of the tool mind you, but a little pressure. Not sure about your "tape off in sections" question though. You aren't taping off your 2' x 2' areas are you? All you need to do is tape off trim so as not to stain it. Apologies if I misunderstood your question.

No ,Michael. Thats far to much work . I guess like most things people have there own techniques that work really well. I was just curious what other people do.

After using a compound I remove all the tape and clean all exterior rubber and plastics to protect them.

Then I follow this by a polish using light pressure over a panel at a time. Buff with a clean micro fibre towel and move onto the next panel. I find some trims dont like the tape hence my technique.

If and where possible I would leave all the tape on all trims and window surrounds. But this never seems to work out. Also the same between door shunts. 90% of the time you are fighting with the tape.

I find it a lot easier to apply a barrier on window surrounds and trims and then a further coat after.Maybe thats just me

OK, good!!! From your question; Also should I still tape off in sections? it almost sounded like you were. You're right, that would be a lot of work - unnecessary work!

Any possibility of an update to the table to include Ultimate Polish and Ultimate Wax? Thanks in advance
