I dont think it utilizes any abrasive technology. Its more like a finishing wax you apply to a car in already excellent condition.

ok now, how does this compare to NXT, since everyone raves about how great NXT is, will this end up replacing it with shine, ease of use and smell?

Gold Class Carnauba Plus Wax has some very minor cleaning ability, but not enough to call it a cleaner wax. It does an excellent job of eliminating very fine marring. Aroma and shine are going to be subjective, of course, but it does not have the sort of aroma associated with NXT Tech Wax 2.0 - it's more like the original Gold Class in that regard; same with the shine.

It does go on like butter though, very rich feeling on application. It dries very quickly and wipe off is super easy too.

NXT remains our best protecting, longest lasting wax. Gold Class has been our premium carnauba blend wax and it still is, but now it's just premium-er.
