Mike Stoops, where does rubbing Compound rank on the scale with Ultimate Compound?

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

This reminds me of Turtle Wax, not a fan. I will try to hold my judgment until I ge tot play around with the stuff. Any ideas on aggressiveness and where this would fit into the consumer line with products like ScratchX 2.0 and Ultimate Compound.

Re: Rubbing Compound & Polishing Compound

Compare this straight up to other rubbing compounds in a tub and you'll be blown away. Where those tend to scour the paint, this simply will not. Remember, these are both designed exclusively for hand application - they actually don't play well with a D/A.

Give us until tomorrow to confirm aggressiveness for you compared to UC and SwirlX.

The Rubbing Compound would probably be a great product for me to use on my sister's car, since the paint is in very rough shape and there are some spots where clearcoat failure is beginning to show. I tried Ultimate Compound and it barely made a dent. What is the best type of applicator pad to use with this product?

Terry to foam, depending on need. Great cutting ability on older paints, including single stage, and followed with the polishing compound it's amazing the results you can for such an inexpensive product.

Maybe I should start a new thread on this, I'm not sure. Here's a couple pics of her car:

It's really scratched, pretty dull, and has some areas where CC is just starting. Sorry I don't have better pics - the ones shown are from her Facebook page. Given that, which do you think would be better, something like M105/M205 on the DA, or the Rubbing Compound followed by the Polishing Compound by hand? Any thoughts on this?

Shane, without a doubt you'll get more cut with M105 on your D/A than Rubbing Compound by hand.

That's kinda what I figured. Just wanted an expert to clarify. Thanks.

So true. The Meg's Rubbing Compound even has the same color coding as the Turtle Wax counterpart: RED. It looks like Meguiar's is on a mission to destroy Turtle Wax!!!

Could this product have been an inspiration of the 3M rubbing/polishing compound combo? That we will never know.

I am a little confused by the polishing compound, as the word "polish" in Meguiar's vocab is reserved for products such as DC-2, M07, etc...

Anyway, for $5.99, or cheaper at local retailers, why not?

Re: Rubbing Compound & Polishing Compound

It's interesting that these Rubbing Compound and Polishing Compound products use the older diminishing abrasive technology. I suspect that these are targeted more at the average consumer than Ultimate Compound and SwirlX. I'll be interested to see how they compare.

So why would I turn to the rubbing compound vs. UC or 105?
Would this be better for spot correction rather then rubbing out the whole car?
From what I gather Mr Stoops, this isn't our fathers rubbing compound.

so id assume with my 70 year old 1939 Dodge, this may be a better product than a DA powered M105/205 as the paint is VERY old and im quite sure thin in some areas?
