I find it strange because I thought of Scotchgard as a fabric protectant, not a hard surface protectant.

I'm curious about this as well. Also to be honest I liked the way you guys were going with the last style of labels.

Fair enough. Does the fact that these products now contain Scotchgard carry any weight with you?

For me, in all honesty, no. In my experience I've never had a problem with a stain on plastic.I imagine that the Scotchguard is to help protect the plastic from dirt and grime though.

The thing I like most about these products is that they have UV protectors and I must say that I really like the spray. It sends out such mist. One little spritz goes a long way and makes the product last much longer.

I too am puzzled by the Scotchgard. I don't get it and I suspect most people won't. I think of Scotchgard as something I put on fabric upholstery to protect against stains. I don't think of it as a vinyl protector. I suppose that if one has vinyl seats, the Scotchgard might be a plus, but I don't have vinyl seats in either of my vehicles.

It looks like the marketing guys have their work cut out for them.

I recall that Scotchguard was pulled from the market due to some EPA problems a while back.

Is this stuff safe for us who might come in contact with it on a daily basis?

The following is direct from 3M's Scotchgard website:

In May 2000, 3M made a voluntary decision to phase out its production of products having perfluorooctanyl chemistry (which included PFOA, PFOS and PFOS-related products), a chemistry that was used in many Scotchgard™ Protector products. 3M’s voluntary phase out decision was taken after research indicated that PFOS, at very low levels, was widely dispersed in wildlife around the world and also had been detected at low levels in people. Although extensive research showed there were no adverse health effects at the levels found, 3M did not want to add to the presence of this persistent compound in the environment or in people.

Instead, 3M decided to invest in developing more sustainable substitute technologies, which efforts led to the introduction of a whole new “next generation” line of reformulated products under the Scotchgard™ Brand name. These reformulated products not only provide equal or better protection performance, they also have a very favorable environmental, health and safety profile.

The important thing to remember is that 3M’s newly-formulated carpet, textiles and leather products sold under, or featuring, the Scotchgard™ Brand name, are based upon stable polymers with minimal to no environmental impact. Further, based on extensive environmental, health and safety testing, these new materials show little toxicity to animals and aquatic organisms even at very high experimental doses in laboratory tests.

Bit surprised by the addition of the scotchguard. Always thought of scotchguard to protect fabric. Not a hard surface?

Not for hard surfaces in the sense of shiny plastics, but for textured plastic it will, just as with Scotchgard's leather protectant, repel both water and oil based liquids and cause them to bead up rather than soak in. We've all seen pictures of horrible spills on center consoles that required heavy cleaners to remove - the use of Scotchgard in a product like this means those spills will be much easier for the end user to clean up, and will buy them some time before things start to set in. If you've been routinely treating carpets and upholstery to prevent this very sort of thing, why not treat your interior textured vinyl surfaces too? Sure, the odds of spilling coffee on your dash might be slim, but it happens all the time to the poor center console.

The consistency and usability are unchanged from previous versions.

Ahhhhh! So in the case of someone spilling coke or some sort of drink on the dash or surface that had been treated with one of these new versions, it would be an easier cleanup?

Yep, that's the whole concept that Scotchgard is based on.

I thought the same thing about Scotch Guard. I'm thinking Megs will want to do some extra educating/selling/marketing on this new concept of Scotch Guard on solid surfaces.

I think amongst the general population "scotchguard" is viewed in a positive light, so it should carry weight with the masses, but I distinctly remember reading on various online detailing forums, much less enthusiasm about scotchguard for fabrics, so I'm not so sure it will be all that big a deal.

I REALLY liked Supreme Shine before and will continue to use it if it works the same (and hopefully still smells like Sun Tan lotion).

looks like they improved the trigger though.

Same here. I like the old bottles better.

Two reasons.

The new bottles have a cheap dull look compared to the old ones. I held one at the store today. All of my current bottle are the old style. The only thing I liked on the new one was the trigger.

The new labels also look cheap. They simply look more old fashioned and more dull. The old lables are colorful, nice and glossy, and simply look more modern and of higher quality. Yes I'm that picky.

I also like how we got more product for the same price

Old was 15.2 oz new is 16oz

On the graphic, meh its ok, How do we define a label for this product any how? The font changed a bit, and you still have the red background from before which I liked,its perfectly fine imo.

Cant wait to try this stuff tomorrow
