    *** New Products for 2010 ***

Ungrit Premium Professional Finishing System – DA Application

DA – Sanding Disc vs Finishing Disc

    “Sanding” Disc
    • Sanding = No foam backing (commonly called a “film” disc)
    • Designed to level texture or remove heavy surface defects

    “Finishing” Disc
    • Finishing = Specialized foam backing (commonly called a “foam” disc)
    • Designed to refine sanding marks & remove light to moderate surface defects

In the image below you can clearly see the specialized foam backing on the finishing disc on the left. The disc on the right is a sanding disc of the same grit - notice the lack of a foam backing, hence the common term "film" disc.

    Advantages to DA Sanding/Finishing
    • Faster = More profitable
    • More uniform / consistent = less buffing time
    • Less fatigue
    • More material cost, less labor costs

I love that Uni-grit is expanding the product for D/A use but the pricing seems high.

For example 3M 6" 3000 grit is only 4.95 per disc Trizact and Mirka is even lower yet.

I fully understand the diff with Uni-grit techno but from a marketing stand point I would have the pricing could be closer. JMHO

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, Frank, but keep in mind these are MSRP prices so street pricing could potentially be lower depending on your source.

Yea I do get pretty $ from my supplier. I was hoping Uni Grit would come out with some new products Especially with 3M's patent on 3000 grit expired so that should help with pricing as well.

I do love the uniformity cut with Uni Grit.

Anyone know if there's a source that has these in stock? I haven't seen them from ADS, Autogeek, etc. at all, but I do see them posted with prices and showing "ships within 1 day" availability at detailing.com -- and I've never dealt with that particular supplier so I don't know whether or not to trust it....

Same here. Saw one seller on ebay selling the said product. I ended up buying a few boxes of 1500 & 3000 grit from 3M.

These are just now starting to ship so it may still be a couple of weeks or so before you find them in stores or even at online sellers.

Mike do you know if the Velcro on these disks is the same as the 3M? I already have the 3M interface pads and just wanted to know if it will work with the Megs disk or if I have to order the Megs interface as well.

                      Thanks,

Rasky, as long as you have 3M's "Hookit" system and not their "Hookit II" system you'll be fine. Their "Hookit" backing plate is a bit harder than ours, too, just so you know.

I better be asking the most qualified. When we use such discs, what pressure do we put on the panel? Is the weight of the polisher sufficient? I use the Flex DA. Many thanks.

Downward pressure should be no more than the weight of the machine itself - you are simply guiding the tool and letting the sanding or finishing disc do it's job. Pressure causes the abrasive disc to cut too fast and too deep. Very light but uniform pressure coupled with smooth and relatively fast passes will yield a very refined and predictable sanding scratch that will be easy to buff out, and it will also prolong the life of the disc. In fact, when done properly, a single 3000 grit foam backed finishing disc can be used for defect correction on an entire full sized car, perhaps more.
