No, they're similar in appearance to our original Soft Buff pads, but the adhesive is such that these are machine washable.

I don't have a spec on the thickness, but looking at them side by side in front of me I'd say the 7" pads are just a tiny bit thicker. Not so much that anyone should care, really.

Remember, when using a 4" pad on a D/A buffer will notice a marked increase in cut over a 7" pad of the same foam construction - assuming similar speed and pressure of course. You're concentrating all that work into a much smaller space. If you do the math on the actual footprint, the difference is quite large. On a rotary you actually get less cut with a smaller pad (all else being equal) since the outside diameter of the smaller pad turns at a slower speed than that of a larger pad. And with a rotary, speed is a really big deal!

I don't need a spec. I was just curious if they were visually the same thickness or a little thinner is all.

      Thanks.

              Mike,

This question might be a bit premature, but do you have any idea how each 4" pad compares to the respective 4" LC pad (more cut, less cut, same cut etc...)?

For example, how would the 7204 compare to the orange or white LC 4" pads? How about the 8204 and 9204?

The foam construction of our 4" pads is the same as our 7" Soft Buff 2.0 pads so comparisons to LC pads should be similar. With that in mind our W7204 yellow polishing pad is generally accepted to fall somewhere between the LC orange and white, our W9204 black finishing pad is very similar to their black pad, and our W7204 maroon cutting pad should fall between their yellow and orange pads.

Re: Premium Professional Finishing System Soft Buff Pads

To those who have used 4" pads with a DA, how long does it take to polish out, say a hood that has minimal swirls?

I'm thinking that yes, the pad is smaller but if it cuts more efficiently, the time will be made back.

                    Right.......wrong?

Re: Premium Professional Finishing System Soft Buff Pads

Well, I think the time would be increased. Although the cut is stronger, you're not often going for a stronger cut. If you were, you'd start off with a stronger compound.

If you want better cut and have a larger area to buffer, then you'll want to use a stronger compound, in my opinion.

For me these pads are more about convenience. My car has a LOT of small 2-5 inches surfaces that the 7 inch pads will stop spinning on or burn the edges too much. Being able to use a smaller pad just makes my life easier.

Of course for the large areas, such as my hood, then 7 inch pads are quicker. (This is speaking from experience using 3 inch pads...)

What backing plate do we use on the DA with these?

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                        I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                        Remove swirls my friends.

A 3.5" or smaller backing plate.

The Spot Repair Pads will use the Meguiar's Professional Backing Plate S3BP which comes with appropriate adaptors to work with your tool.
