  • Quick Review from SEMA: Meguiar's G100 V2

Very quick review (because I don't have more experience with the product).

At the Meguiar's Booth I kind of swindled my way into using the new G110. I stole Mike Pennington's ID badge and pretended to be the man. When Ron Kraft wasn't looking I grabbed the polisher and went to work. (kidding... kind of).

I know the specs of the new G110 do not show it have 'more power' then the previous version, and I disagree 100%. The machine feels more powerful then the previous version (and slightly more comfortable/better balanced).

I asked Jason Rose why and he said that will power isn't up, per say, the new electronics make the power usage far more efficient (please correct me if I am wrong in my memory). Regardless the machine feels more powerful and with the cruise control (I will call it After Burner) it bogs less then the previous machine (far less) when pressure is applied and IMO provides more cutting power in extreme conditions.

Here is the picture I used to replicate Mike P's badge and create a synthetic mask (Mission Impossible style) of his face to fool Ron into using the new G110.

Some cool pictures from Meg's booth.

So you would say that the new version is a definite upgrade? Then it might be worth getting one.

Great feedback, Todd, thanks for that.

Mike did mention something about an impostor running around, and mention of pod people did come up. Now that we have confirmation it was just you goofing around we can all breathe a sigh of relief!

By the way, did you notice the "soft start" feature of the tool as well? Rather than kicking in with full torque immediately it has that little bit of a ramp up to speed instead. For those of you familiar with various rotary buffers, this "soft start" is similar to the way a Makita rotary comes on, rather than the BAM! you get from the DeWalt, for example. It tends to be a bit easier on the internals of the machine.

To be honest I would probably be torn ...

The PC has a loyal following because it is nearly bullet proof.

The newest G110 seems to have a slight power advantage and cooler features then the PC, and from what I have been told the durability is greatly improved.

The Griot's is an interesting option, but I only have experience with the older model (will get to play with the newer offering this weekend). The older model had less power then the older PC's. Mike Phillips told me he feels the Griot's is the most powerful of the newest breed, although noticeable, it is slight. It will be interesting to see if there are any durability problems in the future as can be the case with when machines are sourced.

At the end of the day though, I think the real answer is you cannot go wrong either ways. The G110 V2 has features unique to it which does seperate it from the other (similar) models.
