  • Horizontal Scroll Bar

I’m new to the forum as of today, and after I’d posted a couple of posts, and came back later to log back in, I could not see a login link. Only way to do it was hit the “Reply” button in the thread, and them I’m taken to a login screen, then to the edit box to post my reply, but I don’t really want to reply, just log in. Well, now after my 3rd of 4th visit to this forum today, I noticed a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the screen. Way way over to the right all by itself is the login. I’d post a screen shot, but not sure if this forum allows posting photos or screen shots with less than 30 posts, so I’m trying to describe what I am seeing. I am on a 24-inch monitor, and since buying this monitor a few months ago, seeing a horizontal scroll bar has been a thing of the past, until joining this forum today. Am I the only one seeing this?

I’ve been in forums using vBulletin for years, so I was surprised to not see the login in the normal place.

    Re: Horizontal Scroll Bar

Are you on a Mac or PC? Which browser and what version are you using and what screen resolution are you running?

      Re: Horizontal Scroll Bar

It seems to be related to the "Introducing Meguiar's NEW 2010 Products!" link near the top of the page, and it is definitely browser dependent. IE 8 renders the pages just fine, but Google Chrome and Firefox struggle with it a bit. Haven't checked using my Mac/Safari for a while though as I don't use that box much any more.

It'll be gone in a few weeks when we take down that graphic link...... or I'll bug our webmaster to see if he can remedy this with a slightly different placement.

Until then, apologies for any inconvenience.

Oh, and as for posting images during your initial 30 posts, go for it!! Keep in mind that if they are not hosted here on MOL the forum software may interpret the posting of such photos as a link, in which case your post will go temporarily into moderation. We'll allow it, but we get so much dang spam here that we have to take this sort of measure to block it. Even then, the amount that does get through is frustrating. We'd much rather use our time effectively helping folks like you rather than banning spammers, but such is forum life.

PC, XP SP2, and Firefox. Screen resolution 1440x900. Native resolution is 1920x1200, but that renders text too small for me. 1440x900 is exactly the same ratio as 1920x1200, so nothing is distorted or out of place.

The placement of the NEW 2010 Products link just might be enough to push the login off to the right. If it was on top of the forum links, and not next to it, the problem would probably disappear. I can live with it for now.

Posting links to show people exactly what I’m talking about sometimes is much easier that trying to describe it. Once I found out I couldn’t do that, I hesitated to try and post photos, but posting photos isn’t something I think I’ll need to do, tho posting photos when I get around to detailing the car might be something to try. My car is white, but my other half’s car is a very dark blue, and I’m going to try the stuff on her car too, maybe using some tape on the hood to show the before and after photo. Photography is what I do. I wonder if I can insert my avatar in here.

You guys must do an awfully great job because this is one of the cleanest forums I've been on. And I'm not talking about language but I mean the forum is very well-kept and I've been here a lot and have never thought "Wow, why is this guy on here!?" You guys do a great job of getting rid of spam before I even see it. And I've been using vBulletin forums for over 8 years.
