Pictures from January 16th, 2010 - Saturday Open Class
Re: Pictures from January 16th, 2010 - Saturday Open Class
Mr. Stoops, thank you very much for helping me out with the headlight for my honda fit today. I will post some detailed before and after pictures tomorrow of when I begin working on the lights. Once again, thank you so much for the awesome class.

I want to give a big thank you to Mike, the pizza delivery girls, and the sacrificial Dodge for us to work on! I have to say I do not know many professionals as patient and as knowledgable as Mike. I really appreciated you taking the time to answer all of our questions as well as PERSONALLY inspect and give us tips on our cars. Its people like Mike who make me stick with Meguiars : honesty, custi\omer service, and quality. And that meat pizza alone is worth the drive up from San Diego!
Thanks,
Daniel

Ditto on the thanks to Mike and Meguiar's. Because of you guys I now have two new words I can use in my repertoire of car detailing terms, "dwell time" and "sacrificial barrier."
Also it was nice to meet ppl who care about cars as much as I do or even more.
Re: Pictures from January 16th, 2010 - Saturday Open Class
Thanks to all of you for making this class so much fun!! You enthusiasm and passion are fantastic!!
As promised, here are a few pictures from the day......
Ah yes, swirls.
And more swirls.....
A quick clay treatment to remove the above surface bonded contaminants...
.... and Daniel, the car owner, finished claying the rest of the hood.
From there we move on to hand application of Ultimate Compound in order to remove the swirls and other below surface defects.
We did the optional step of applying some Deep Crystal Polish to the surface and then the class voted to give Meguiar's new Gold Class Carnauba Plus a try on this black Dodge SRT4.
Now that's what we mean by a thin coat of wax! Yes, that's Gold Class Carnauba on the taped off section area closest to the camera.
On to machine polishing! The same Ultimate Compound, this time on a W8207 Soft Buff 2.0 foam polishing pad, speed 5 on the G110v2.
Here's what happens if you turn the tool off and leave the pad against the paint - a heavy circle of product. To avoid this, switch the tool off but keep it moving over the paint, smoothly lifting it up as the pad rotation slows.
Switching to a W9207 Soft Buff 2.0 foam finishing pad, we slow the G110v2 down to speed 3 and use just light pressure to apply our Gold Class Carnauba Plus liquid wax. On the pad is enough to do at least half the hood!
Once the wax was fully dried we pulled the car out into daylight to evaluate our results. As the cloud cover had started moving in we needed an assist from a swirl finder light, but even with the cloud cover you can see that the treated area looks deeper and darker. Yes, we made black paint look blacker!
With the help of a swirl finder light you can clearly see the difference. We've got a R.I.D. here and there that might need some additional work, but the swirls are history.
With a successful test spot, we pulled the car back into the garage and let Daniel and others finish off the hood to end our day.

Mike,
Thank you for the class. It has been some time since my first Meguar's class so it was good to hear what new products Meguiar's has developed recently.
I also wanted to thank you for your help in removing those four etchings that looked like drops on my car. I don't know how long they've been there but at least two years.

I'm glad that they're finally gone.
Thanks again for your help.
Happy to assist!
