  • How to get an email message when someone responds to a post I'm on

Hey everyone, aren't I supposed to be getting emails when someone responds to a thread I have subscribed to? I thought I found in the user CP where you turn this feature on, but somehow it's not working. Can anyone tell me how to get these email notifications? Thanks!

If you figure it out, let me know. I've never received email notifications on threads I've subscribed to. But I also never received my activation email either.

Never get email responses either. But once in a blue moon I get some old ones out of nowhere.

I get an email for posts made to every thread I've posted on or subscribed to or originated.

On top of the first post on the thread there is a button that says "Thread Tools", click on it and click on "Subscribe to this thread"

I've been on this and the older version of this forum and I've never gotten e-mail notification to threads I've subscribed to. This is the only web forum where I have this issue and it seems that there are a number of us that this just never works for. I gave up reporting it. I've tried this with a couple different e-mail addresses and ISP's (AT&T & RoadRunner), all with no success. To get around this issue I click the new posts button daily and scan the posts. It is moderately bothersome. Funny thing is that I would always get e-mail from Mike Phillips to those e-mail accounts so there was no blockage in the ether. I also get the newsletter.

How about a show of hands, figuratively, of all who have this problem. Someone want to start a poll? Maybe this might point out some commonality for the admin.

Yeah what yalerd sayd, you click subscribe to this thread. When you make a post you are subscribed to your own thread and you can see your subscriptions in User CP.

It's broke for some of us and not for others. It used to work fine for me and then about a year ago I stopped getting notifications.

The MOL webmasters can't figure it out. May be a SQL glitch or a corruption in vBulletin.

As mentioned, we are subscribed to the threads already. This is not the issue. The issue is, once subscribed we don't get any type of email notification on new posts... despite choosing this option.

Are you guys all going in and setting the option correctly in your UserCP?

In the gold nav bar toward the top of the page, click the User CP link on the far left side.

On the resulting page, scroll down to the Settings & Options section on the navigation menu on the left side of the page.

Within that heading you'll see Edit Options. Click on that.

Now in the center stack of the page scroll down to Messaging & Notification where you'll find the Messaging & Notification heading and a dropdown box for how frequently you want to be notified.

That said, there are a number of reasons why some of you are not receiving email notifications. Most likely it has to do with mail servers rejecting our mail server’s connection which can happen for several reasons. That’s why only some of you don’t get these emails. Other causes of course are overzealous spam filters that may automatically delete certain emails, Black lists that may contain our domain name, things of that nature.

Whenever someone registers on the forum a confirmation email is sent, and we know that certain ISPs have issues with this and reject them. When we routinely go in and manually approve new accounts, we generally see these same ISPs showing. I believe these confirmation emails show as coming from my email address. Birthday greetings, automatic thread notifications, etc certainly do because I get them all the time, and if someone has an old email address the bounceback comes to me. And for some odd reason, even though the automated registration confirmations won't go through, the emails I send personally to notify a new member that I have manually approved them does go through.

Yes, technology is a wonderful thing, as long as it does exactly what you want it to do.

                            Michael, I've gone through all this with Mike Phillips and verified that;

                            1. My local settings are in fact set properly. I've actually tried this on three different computers and with three different major ISP's.

                            2. As I mentioned, I do get email from Meguiars. I also get the notice of the newsletters.

                            3. I have no mail filters set at any of my ISP's (Comcast, Roadrunner & AT&T) or on my computer.

                            4. I did get the confirmation email from Meguiars just fine.

I'm firmly convinced there is an odd bug in your software. It affects some of us 100% of the time.

I would be more than happy to work with you or your admin to isolate this issue once and for all.

My ISP is Cox.net. Using the above logic all MOL members that have cox.net as an ISP should not be receiving thread and PM email notices (I do get the newsletter and special sales emails). This should be easy enough to check.

Any MOL members in So Cal have Cox.net for an ISP and still get thread and PM email notifications?

                              Thanks,
