    Pictures from January 30th, 2010

We had a small but very passionate group here on Saturday, and typically beautiful SoCal weather to help us out. And reveal swirls.

Yep, those are swirls alright, along with a hologram or two.

This was our test subject for the day - dirty though it was. Ahmed brought in his Saleen Mustang for a little clean up.

Time for a little evaluation of the finish.....yes, it feels a little, um, rough.

And here's why! Sure, we've seen worse, but this made a huge difference in the feel of the paint.

Larry gives claying a try for the first time.

Then it was time for a little paint cleaning to see about removing those swirls. We section off the hood with tape and then work one are by hand and the other by G110v2. We'll compare the results a bit later.

Just look at the concentration on Larry's face as he watches a demo of the G110v2!

Just a little example of rolling the G110v2 to match body contours the car.

At the suggestion of the class, we applied Gold Class Carnauba Plus to one test spot and NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 to the other. A lot of people complain about hard it is to remove hazed wax. Here Larry shows just how easy, and how much fun, it is to wipe off a properly thin coat of NXT!

Ahmed does the same with the Gold Class Carnauba Plus side proving that, carnauba or synthetic, when applied in a nice thin coat you simply shouldn't have to work hard to remove hazed wax.

We pulled the Mustang back out into the sunshine so we could evaluate our test spots. This is the spot where the G110v2 was put to use - nice and clear, glossy and "blacker" than the rest of the car.

This is the spot done by hand. Very similar results, though not quite as defect free as the machine side. Quite a bit more physical work to achieve this though!!

Now it's time to pass the G110v2 around and let others get a feel for it. Here Larry (yes, more Larrys than Mikes today!!!) has a go. Larry just recently purchased a G110v2 and took the class prior to using it on his black truck. Smart move!

Ahmed's turn to try the G110v2. After all, we are using his car for the demo!

To demonstrate just how easy it is to use and control the G110v2 we had a bit of fun. Yes, the tool is running at speed 5. So many people put a death grip on the tool when they first start working with it. Relax a bit. Respect the tool, don't fear it. It really is very easy to use.

The topic of our new Ultimate Protectant came up, so we tried it out on the somewhat untidy trim on Ahmed's Mustang. So easy to use, and what a difference! What's so great here is that the treated side was totally dry to the touch in just a couple of minutes.

Ultimate Protectant applied to half of a mirror housing.

Thanks again to all who spent yesterday hanging out at Meguiar's Garage, with a special shout out to Eugene for handling the camera work for us!

Mike, thanks for putting this class on. It was very informative and well worth my trip to LA.

To all my fellow classmates it was my pleasure to meet all of you, I look forward to sharing our experiences on the Megauir's forum.

Larry, it was great meeting you and spending time learning with you. I also thought it was pretty cool that you made a special trip to So Cal.

Mike, Is Ultimate Compound and 105 the same? If not should you have them both in your tool box.

They are certainly related, but definitely not the same product. M105 is the most aggressive compound we make; it will pull out 1000 grit sanding marks when used with a rotary buffer and a wool pad. Ultimate Compound is a consumer level product that offers superior cut while giving a high clarity finish, but it's not nearly as potent as M105. It does make use of the same advanced abrasives technology though.
