  • First engine compartment detail for me and my car

Hi, today I did my first engine compartment detail, also the first one for my car, a 1997 Ford Explorer. Needless to say, after 13 years with no cleaning, it needed work. I have wanted to do this for a long time, just didn't know how.

My process was to rinse the engine compartment with a hose, then I sprayed everywhere with Super Degreaser 1:4. Then I used a nylon bristle detail brush to scrub the greasier parts and also used microfibers to clean.

Then I rinsed with a hose and again sprayed everywhere with SD 1:4 and again scrubbed and wiped. I rinsed with a hose one more time and let it pretty much dry.

Then I sprayed Hyper Dressing 1:4 and wiped it around and repeated this. I seemed to be getting droplets that were too big so I couldn't mist it. I probably should have adjusted my sprayer.

Miraculously, the engine started up when I was done.

This is still some work to do, but it looks a lot better.

Let's see here...... you've been on MOL less than a month, you've only got 42 posts, you're learning how to use a rotary buffer (the correct way, we should add!) and now you're doing extreme make overs on engine bays.

          We've created a monster!!!!

Absolutely fantastic work, Marcki!! That looks like a new engine bay!

Great job. I just cleaned my '04 Sienna bay for the first time. I wish I would have taken some before photos. After using a mild detergent, I really liked how UQD spruced things up. I now will be doing the maintenance plan on it for here on out.

              Great turnaround!!!
There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?
