Swirls in 3M paint protection film

I got some nasty swirls in my clear paint protection film and tried using 3M Performance Wax to get some of them out. A few came out but not an acceptable amount. I read on another post that someone had used M205 on a clear bra so I gave it a shot by hand. It took 95% of swirls out so that you can only see them under flourescent light at the right angle.

I was considering stepping up to maybe scratchx 2.0 but 3M doesn't recommend using compounds or abrasives on the film so I'm hesitant as I already used M205.

Any suggestions? Will the use of the M205 cause problems in the film in the future?

    Thanks in advance,
    Andy

I see the 35 views which makes me think that some are not able to accurately help you. I have heard not to use anything to remove swirls on these films but I may have heard wrong. I really do not know though.

Contacting the manufacturer of the film is always the best bet. We have seen people successfully use M205, ScratchX 2.0 and PlastX by hand or via a D/A to correct swirls in clear bras, but please understand that you do this at your own risk. Many clear bra manufacturers explicitly state not to use anything abrasive on the material. Whether that's just a broad way for them to cover themselves or they truly mean nothing with any sort of abrasive whatsoever is anyone's guess. Keep in mind that M205 and one of our chief competitors old school rubbing compounds both contain abrasives, but the technology is decades apart.

Also remember the a protection film is simply that, it's meant to protect your paint. Scratches in it should be considered "normal" since they're in the film, not the paint.

It's like buying a protector for your phone. If you drop your phone, the protector is damaged but the phone is OK.
