  • Longer or stronger?

Last Friday evening I used Swirl-X with a white Lake Country pad on my DA. I had only minor swirls on my dark blue car, but I had to work it and work it and work it to get these minor swirls out. It took me two hours to do the engine hood (it's a Mazda MX-5, so that perhaps provides a reference point on the surface area involved), but I must say, I was very, very pleased with the result and obtained a very nearly flawless finish.

The question is, on the rest of the car do I continue to work it a long time or go for a stronger pad or chemical?

How much pressure were you using and what speed did have the tool set on? The Mazda MX-5 Miata paint tends to be fairly easy to work on so we would definitely suggest using a stronger liquid before going to a more aggressive pad. If you were running slower than speed 5 and/or only using light pressure, try turning up the speed and/or increasing the pressure. You can put down enough pressure to deform the pad pretty well, but not quite enough to stop the rotation. If that doesn't speed things up with SwirlX then step up to Ultimate Compound.

I had the DA on 5 the entire time and definitely put sufficient pressure on it to deform the pad. I'll give the Ultimate Compound a try and report back.

Thanks, as always, for letting novices ask what might be dumb questions, and getting helpful advice in response.

It appears that The Ultimate compound will be you next thing to try. Good luck.

We use to have a Mazda 5. #105/205 combo always worked wonders for us.
