Pictures from Thursday Night Open Garage - April 29th, 2010

Well, that was a fun night - and busy too!

Dick brought in his always perfect Escalade EXT and as usual we argued about what color it is.......

    Is it blue....

    ....or is it green.....

    ....or is it both?

Brian brought in a 4th Gen Camaro that, um, needed a little help.

We also got to teach Jeff how to correct some issues on his Chevy pickup. He had waxed it, but there were still swirls, water spots and some bird dropping etchings.

After showing Jeff the fine points of G110v2 use he went at it, and got some great results!

Jeff's truck has a roll up vinyl tonneau cover that was looking a bit tired, so we broke out the Ultimate Protectant, but that's a lot real estate to cover. Hmmm..... how best to apply a product to large expanse of flat surface? The G110v2, of course!

Back to Brian's Camaro, and the A-Team starts to evaluate the finish and devise a plan of attack.

    Then the real work begins.

    Say "hi!"

Here's a carbon fiber hood with a light silver top coat that needed a little TLC.

While all this went on in the garage there was plenty of activity outside as well.

Andy brought in his Nissan Sentra coupe that is fully track prepped. The headlights needed some cleaning up so we opened up a Headlight Restoration Kit, grabbed a drill and went to town on these nasty things. No sanding at all here, just PlastX and the wool pad from the kit.

    After:

    Side by side:

You're probably wondering how Brian's Camaro came out. Quite nicely, thank you very much!

And here's the A-Team that took the Camaro from trashed to treasured in under 5 hours; Jesse, Paul, Bob and Brian. Awesome work, guys!!

The full moon was rising..... time to close down and head home.

We owe a huge THANK YOU!! to Andy (bmrfan) for all his help last night, including his work behind the camera. Of course a similar thanks to the Camaro A-Team and everyone else who came out for the evening.

Can't say Thanks enough to all the guys who helped bring back my Camaro. This car sat for 5 years and I really did not expect the results we got. Hoping that maybe some color sanding will make her that much better. To be continued....!!!

Now I'm sorry I missed last night's TNOG! I often state that the TNOG's, while informal, are like free training sessions because of the variety of paint finishes and other surface conditions that are brought in for correction. I would have loved to seen the techniques used by some master polishers at work using rotarys on that Camaro!

Jesse, where did that Makita come from? Yours?

Yeah, that's my Makita. Although there were plenty of Dewalts there I decided to use my Makita since I had tools with me. I love my Makita.

              Hey Mike,

I cannot believe you used the G110 to apply Ultimate Protectant! LOL! Does the finishing pad work better than a polishing pad?

I am going to have to try this soon.

You Nick, we started applying the UP by hand but that tonneau was huge and we were just slammed last night. So it just seemed logical to apply it over a large surface with the G110v2 and the finishing pad seemed the logical choice too as we didn't really want any cutting action. It worked great!

Last night was a really informative night - picked up some tips watching the "crew" working on the Camaro and practiced reconditioning the headlights on a few cars.

The more I use the Headlight reconditioning kit, the more impressed I am with the results. The headlights on Andy's Nissan track car looked really bad but we were able to "fix" the lights with 25 - 35 min of work.

Another great night at Meguiars. The best part was working with good friends, Jesse and Paul and making a few new one too!

Thanks to Meguiars for making it all possible and letting us play with all their cool stuff

It was fun. Thanks Mike for letting me use the buffer to do my carbon fiber hood. It turns out great today! Are you tired of the celica crew invading the class yet Mike? Lol. Again I appreciate all your help!

Again I had a great time. I am the guy with the silver celica that was parked in the garage for a little buffing of the CF hood. The name is Truc pronounced Truck lol. And I might get your name wrong but Andy was it? You helped me out a lot. You seem to know alot about detailing. I thought you were part of Meguiars lol. Thanks for your help of showing me how to clay correctly and showing me all the tips.

I just Got Back to Vancouver.
Thank-you Mike and Andy, Dick and everyone else
I have my goodies and a little bit better under standing now.
I had to get a large duffle bag to bring back all my Meguiar's product that I bought.
I got to ask about the product, and see it in action

Wow you Maguiar's guys work way to hard, but it looks like you really enjoy it.

Thank-you very much for letting me be apart of your night
