  • BMW makeover...

Well here it is. When I first saw this car, I said NO WAY! But decided to give it a try anyways. It was buffed a week prior, and they didn;t deliver any improvements. I really don't know what it looked like before they buffed it, but this is how I got it.

For those that are still living under a rock, I'll just give you some friendly advice.....BUY SOME DANG M105 ALREADY!!!!

Here it is "after" M105 rotary/wool, and M205 rotary/foam finishing pad. We finished this car late, and I mean really late! It was after midnight, and I was extremely tired! Wax streaked a bit and thats the "haze" you'll see in some of the pictures, but we got it to a very respectable level, I think.

Brinkman lights were both dead from using them all day/night on this car, and obviously the sun was long gone, so only halogen after shots. Total, I think we got this car about 95% better. Some pits in the paint, and obviously we can't help those, but it is what it is...

    Here are some 50/50 shots...

    And the afters...

Very nice. When I do my BMW hood I get those same little tiny flecks of reflectiveness that you see around the light. Do you think those are just bits of deeper swirls? No matter how long I buff they are still there. I could only remove them by wet sanding.

Those are impact craters brought about by high speed collisions with small particulate matter hovering at hood height above our highways and byways. We see this all the time in older cars brought to our Saturday and Thursday Night sessions, and you're right - they are so deep that the only way to remove them is by wet sanding. But truthfully, that's rarely a good option as hey can be so deep that to level down to the bottom of them is to remove more clear coat that is considered safe. Obviously these are most noticeable in bright light and on non metallic, dark colors. Black and red are prime candidates for displaying these frustrating little pits.

Thanks, Michael. Mine is a nonmetallic red, probably about an 87. I agree, probably couldn't get by with wet sanding on a car, but there is a big difference just from buffing. I don't think I can do as good a job as Nick, though, at least yet. That looks awesome.
