  • Made a mistake should I undo Wax or what?

    Hi everyone!

I detailed my wife's suv yesterday. I washed, clayed, used DA/Polish Pad/#83 then #80, then applied wax on top of that. Now I realized that the scratch on the panel was pretty deep and maybe I can still correct it with #105 but I already put on my LSP.... so what do I do? Do I just use #105 right over the current wax then go back to #80 then wax again? Or do I have to remove the wax first? If so, how do I remover wax? I read ppl from other forums are using Dawn soap... is that the right product to use? I don't want to damage anything because my wife will have my head! lol Please help!

Also, suppose if I didn't have any issue with the finish, when should I wax the car again? 1 month, 2 month, etc? Do I have to remove the wax before I put a new layer of wax on each time?

    Thanks in advance guys!

I don't know how much help I can be, but I recommend not using dish soap at all.
It doesn't seem to me like you would need to remove the wax before working on the scratch. I'd just clean the panel and/or area that you plan to work on throughly.

You can go right over the LSP after washing the section without a problem. Just be sure to re-wax the area. You could also clay the area and that will remove almost all the wax on the area and then you can further inspect the surface. But, be sure to re-wax.

Yeah, you can just use #105 on the affected area. Depending on how the #105 finishes, you may want #80, or a pure polish before waxing, or can just go straight to waxing.

As far as waxing again, it is up to you. I like to use UQD or UQW after each wash, so I kind of watch for when they are harder to apply/remove. Then I will do a clay if needed, ColorX, Wax, at least. Or a more complete detail if I feel like it. But some people like to wash and put a full fresh coat on every week. And everything in between...

If you're talking about having to go back and address just one specific defect, then just make sure the area is dust free - wipe it down with something like Quik Detailer and a microfiber towel - and then go at with the M105. Whether or not you need to follow up with the M80 will depend on a few factors, but it's easy enough to do quickly if need be. Of course, you will need to reapply wax to that area.
