I tried some of this on my Jeep wheels and the towel showed a very gray/black residue..So either the clear coat is gone or never was there..I didn't do the wheel though..Just the really oxidized parts..

The clear coat was never there. The gray/black residue you are seeing is oxidation and other contaminants being pulled off of the metal.Tedrow's Detailing
