Meguiar's Quik Tips Video Series - Waxing

After viewing the video clip you can scroll down for a step by step refresher, complete with still images shot during the filming of the video.

Please keep in mind that this video, and the others in the series, are not designed to be definitive how to guides but rather, as the name implies, Quik Tips that address the most common questions and mistakes associated with each topic.

Waxing your car regularly is a must when it comes to protecting your paint from the elements... and with the variety of waxes available, choosing the right one can be a bit confusing.

If you are looking for a synthetic polymer based wax for the ultimate in protection, Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 is your answer. If you are looking more for a natural carnauba based wax, we recommend Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus wax. Each is offered in a in liquid or paste version and we even offer a separate spray wax…all having their own unique benefits.

Our liquid waxes offer high quality protection in an easy to use liquid form. If your looking for that feel of a traditional paste, our paste waxes offer the same quality of protection as our liquids. And our spray wax is the best choice for an even quicker, easier result.

Before waxing, wash and dry your vehicle thoroughly, and make sure it's free from any defects and bonded contaminants. If not, you'll need to use our Smooth Surface Clay Kit or one of our paint cleaners like Meguiar's Ultimate Compound to properly prep the surface before applying a wax.

When applying a wax, best results will always be achieved when working in the shade and on a cool surface.

If you are working by hand, apply your favorite Meguiar's wax onto a foam applicator and spread the product over the surface creating a thin uniform layer. Continue working around the vehicle until it is covered in a thin even coat.

If you are using our Dual Action Polisher, attach our black Foam Finishing Pad, and set the speed to between 1 and 3. Apply your favorite Meguiar's wax directly to the pad and place the pad flat on the paint. Turn the machine on and begin buffing with light pressure in an overlapping pattern while keeping the pad flat against the paint at all times.

Re-Apply the wax to the pad as often as needed until the entire vehicle has a thin, even coat of wax. Thin coats are important as a heavy coat just causes a longer drying time, makes removal difficult, and simply waists product.

When the wax is dry, use our Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel to easily remove it.

To determine when the wax is ready to be removed, swipe your finger across a section. If it smears, it is not yet ready to remove. If it is clear, however, then you can begin removing the wax using our Supreme Shine Microfiber towel.

To extend the life of your wax, remember to always use a wash designed for car finishes like Meguiar's Ultimate Wash N Wax.

Mr. Stoops, I've seen your videos in youtube. Detailing tutorial if i'm not mistaken. Its about applying ultimate compound, deep crystal polish, and the nxt 2.0 wax. The layer of wax you applied looks unbelievably thin. I feel like i've wasted a bit of wax, i thought i applied mine thin! the deep crystal video is good too, with a bit of laughs and ad photo sessions in between (kidding!).

Thanks for all the tips and info! More power, meguiars!

oh yeah, i've seen that thread. almost like a "you've got to be kidding me.." sort of thing when i saw how little wax you used. The problem i have is that i feel a bit paranoid or something when i apply a really thin coat of wax. Almost like I didn't put enough wax or i won't get as much protection if i apply a ridiculously thin coat of wax. I was wrong! Maybe a little issue i have now is that i have the paste version of NXT, so i'm not optimizing the apply-in-thin-coats approach as much as the liquid version..

PS: I'm not yet "in love" with the NXT 2.0, i also use mothers FX and i'm able to get comparison/s in terms of ease of use and gloss characteristics, but this NXT is starting to grow on me. My aunt from the USA just bought me 2 bottles of NXT 2.0 and should arrive within a few weeks..I'm excited! I am glad that your liquid/paste version offers the same protection.. Its kinda annoying when one has to buy a paste version to get better protection. Based on my experience lately, it should be the same. With paste, it may be more dense than the liquid, but you do have to spread that thickness over a panel, and end up with having a thin layer of wax.. same as the liquid..

oh, how come the nxt doesn't bead as crazy as your deep crystal carnauba? I was expecting more insane beading from the car.. Or is it supposed to bead in a differnt way? I even saw sheeting vs. beading one time when i washed the car (just hosed it with water). I'm just a bit confused, since it's supposed to be one of NXT's main characteristics (ALthough sheeting does have a lot of advantages)..

Thanks for the heads up on the "Private" setting. Not sure what happened there, but we'll get it sorted ASAP.
