  • super soap

i ordered up some super soap and got in the mail today (among other things from ADS ) but i have a few questions now.
    1) i bought this for use in my foam gun and was wondering if people are diluting it before putting it into the canister? and if so, at what ratio? i know it says 128:1 on the bottle, but i am not mixing it in a bucket

    2) will super soap take off wax? is it stronger/harsher than say GC? i just polished and waxed my gt and dont want it to strip the wax just yet lol. but i would also like to use my foam gun.

    Re: super soap

    2) Super soap is certainly safe for paint/wax.

    1) What I do: (Assuming Gilmour, brass ,adjustable, etc.)

I put 4-5 oz of soap in the canister, and fill with water. With that, putting the gun on the highest setting is just over 128:1, and the next lowest is just under 128:1.

I have an old post with the math somewhere.

        And the 1 quart canister....

Not sure how it compares to Nxt, that seems the strongest I have used so far.

That's the same soap I use for my foam gun. I put an ounce or 2 of soap in and then fill the rest of the reservoir with water. Good foam, more than enough to foam the entire car.

            Re: super soap

Super Soap is probably our best soap for consumer use in a foam gun, at least from the perspective of foam level. It's really our only soap designed specifically for a foaming type application. It is not going to give you the sort of complete, clinging coverage you see from the SnowFoam product, but it's also not designed to.

Our detailer line car wash soaps primarily vary in formulation due to their intended application process. Remember, the Detailer line is essentially a commercial chemical line of products, and there are various different types of equipment used for basically the same purpose. So, we developed different products for these different pieces of equipment.

When consumers or enthusiasts ask which soap is better, it's almost an unanswerable question. From a commercial standpoint, if you've got equipment that is designed to handle a 400:1 dilution ratio, then you're not going to like much of anything except HyperWash. That doesn't mean the other products don't clean a vehicle as well, they just aren't designed for your equipment. As consumers and enthusiasts we don't have these equipment worries to deal with so our decisions are based on other factors - often based in emotions. Which one smells better? Which one suds more in a bucket? In a foam gun? Which one feels more slippery? Consumers decisions are based on different criteria than those of the typical commercial user. That doesn't mean you can't use these soaps, or that they're dangerous in any way at all. But you need to understand the subtleties of them and not over think them.

Good reply, Michael, I'm glad you said it about sometimes decisions (and the formulation of the products from the producer's side)are based on other factors besides pure performance specs.

I was led to Meguiar's products instantly when I started detailing. I came from the express exterior car washing industry, so what I know when it comes to chemicals is based off of $/oz and oz/wash. My Meg's distributor thought I should try out Hyper-Wash. It is the only soap or shampoo I've used (to hand-wash) a car, and I actually do use it in my foam gun. I split the mixture in the gun canister a little over half and half with water, then set the foam setting to 1:128. I didn't nail it down exactly to the recommended 1:400; but I estimate the difference favors the "higher soap" side, and that is okay when my most frequently washed vehicle is a 2008 BLACK Accord (softest paint award?).

Now, to the original post, and the other responses I agree about SS: I've used Super-Soap (free sample from ADS with purchase of foam gun)one time with my foam gun, and did the same setup as Murr. (Murr, any clue where that math is? I tried to do a spreadsheet but got a headache.) I liked the foaming action of it, the lubricity, and the smell; and it's perfectly safe.
