  • coats of wax ?

I am new here and have a few of questions.
When people refer to multiple "coats of wax", do they mean apply a coat, then apply another coat on top of the first coat? Or do they mean apply a coat, buff it off, then apply a second coat ?
Also, is "layering" the same thing as applying "two coats of wax"?

You need to buff off the first coat in order to apply the 2nd, 3rd, etc.

Usually 2 coats should be fine.

Apply the coat, let it dry, remove. Wait a while, apply the second coat. Follow the same procedure.

Is "layering" the same thing as applying two coats . or does layering mean something else?

Two coats is enough. The main reason that two coats can be endorsed is to insure full coverage of the vehicle without any missed spots.

If you REALLY want to layer products you can start looking into multiple products with a Sealant, Glaze and then finally a Carnauba on top (be sure it is pure without any cleaners). Some Glazes can be applied under the sealant without effecting the way the sealant bonds, but I prefer to lay down the sealant first and then use a glaze topped with a carnauba.

Some people will use 'layering' more when referring to two different products, say Nxt followed by Gold Class.

Meguiar's recommends applying two thin coats of wax in order to achieve uniform coverage and appearance. Those two coats should be applied as the others have already described.

Layering is generally the application of multiple coats of wax, sometimes as many as 30 or more coats. There are some who believe that doing so achieves an ever increasing level of gloss and protection, but we have never bought into this concept. Sure, we could sell more product if we recommended many multiple coats, but we simply do not believe there is anything to gain, or that you can even create an ever increasing film build by doing so. Independent lab tests indicate that after the second coat you tend to start reducing the level of film build with subsequent applications. A coat of wax is very thin, and the constant rubbing and buffing only serves to remove more and more of it. That's why we also tell you to apply a thin coat, let it dry fully, then simply wipe it off. You don't gain more shine by continuing to rub and buff the wax after the haze has been wiped off, but you can remove a good portion of the layer you intended to leave behind.

                  No.

You would have to remove them both, and any polish as well.
