  • Recommendations for cleaner wax/polish?

Hi everyone - I'm new to the forum and relatively new (past 2-3 years) to detailing. Lately I've been experimenting with a lot of different products and have discovered that Meguiar's products are top notch. Just last week I tried NXT 2.0 on my wife's car and it looks phenomenal.

I was wondering if I could get a recommendation for a good cleaner wax/polish? I have been using Klasse AIO for the past few months after hearing rave reviews about it, but I'm honestly not that impressed Any input would be appreciated!

    Hey Jeff, Welcome to MOL

I would go with the Deep crystal trio ( Step 1 Step 2 Step 3) or just cleaner wax works great too! Good luck!

You could go with #7, and the A-12 cleaner wax. Maroon bottle.

ColorX followed with Nxt is always a good detail.

        1. Wash
        2. Clay
        3. ColorX
        4. Nxt 2.0

ColorX and Meguiar's Cleaner Wax are very popular AIO product and can be found almost in any place.

My Process basically after washing and claying.....

            1st Layer: #7 Showcar Glaze
            2nd Layer: NXT 2.0
3rd Layer: #26 Hi Tech Yellow
4th Layer: Meg's Ultimate Quick Wax (also counts for final wipe down)

This is a NO JOKE difference Before and After....

                Re: Recommendations for cleaner wax/polish?

ColorX is an excellent cleaner wax that is widely available and easy to use. For a little deeper cleaning SwirlX offers a very long buffing cycle (work time, etc) and can remove light swirls and towel marks.

Follow either with NXT Tech Wax 2.0 and you should be set.

                    Re: Recommendations for cleaner wax/polish?

Thanks for the recommendations! I was thinking of trying #5 or #7 show car glaze as well since I have never used a pure polish before. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm thinking my process would be:

                    1. Wash
                    2. Clay
                    3. Cleaner wax (haven't decided on which one to try yet!)
                    4. #5 or #7 show car glaze
                    5. NXT 2.0

I"m assuming the polish would go after the cleaner wax, yet before the sealant. Also, I've read about the humidity factor with #5 but otherwise is there a big difference in shine between #5 or #7? Thanks guys

                      Re: Recommendations for cleaner wax/polish?

If you are going to use a pure polish, you would use a cleaner, not a cleaner/wax.

                      1. Wash
                      2. Clay
                      3. Clean - SwirlX would be the general cleaner
                      4. Polish - #5, #7, DC Polish
                      5. Wax
                      6. Wax

                        Re: Recommendations for cleaner wax/polish?

Oh okay, so if I use a cleaner/wax than a pure polish is not necessary?

                          Re: Recommendations for cleaner wax/polish?

Necessary isnt really the right word... its more like 'how the steps fit together'. The goal is a process such as:

                          1. Wash
                          2. Clay if needed
                          3. Clean
                          4. Polish
                          5. Wax
                          6. Wax - A second coat is best

So you could do those steps with the separate products as in my previous post. Or, with a cleaner/wax (Cleaner/Wax, ColorX, #66, etc), it would look like:

                          1. Wash
                          2. Clay if needed
                          3. Clean/Polish/Wax
                          4. Wax - Using a regular wax at the end gets the second coat.

If you used a pure polish after the cleaner wax, it would be wash/clay/clean/polish/wax/polish/wax. So you can see the steps would be repeating, and out of order.

However, in general a separate product will do better at its job than an all in one. A cleaner will clean better than a cleaner/wax, a pure polish will polish better than a cleaner/wax, a wax will look/last better than a cleaner/wax. So you just have to balance your goals, time available, etc. I do a couple 'full' details during the year, and a few 'cleaner/wax' details.

You can also do something like:
                          1. Wash
                          2. Clay if needed
                          3. Clean - Fix a swirled/scratched spot with a stronger cleaner
                          4. Cleaner/Wax everything
                          5. Wax

So you can see the steps would still be in order.

                            Re: Recommendations for cleaner wax/polish?

Thanks Murr, I appreciate the advice. You confirmed what I thought about separate products being more efficient than all-in-ones. I think I will go with:

                            1. Wash
                            2. Clean
                            3. Polish
                            4. Wax (2 coats as you said)

I just clayed my car about a month ago before my last wax so I think I can get away with skipping that step this time around.

Yeah, there is a place for both, mostly comes down to the time/effort available really. ColorX + Nxt is great for a quick detail, no doubt about it.
