  • Which polishing pad to use with the DA polisher?

I recently purchased the Meguiar's G110v2 Professional Dual Action Polisher from Amazon. It looks like the diameter of the backing plate is 6.5". I would like to purchase the 'Meguiar's W8006 6.5-Inch Soft Buff Foam Polishing Pad' to be used with this DA polisher but per Meguiar's Customer service, it will not fit unless I changed my backing plate to the 5.5" one. Or I could purchase the 'SOFTBUFF 2.0 FOAM POLISHING PAD 7 inch' to work with my current backing plate. My concern is that the price difference between the 6.5" and 7.5" pad is about $6. I wonder if I can use the 6.5" polishing pad with my DA polisher or do I really need to get the 7" pad to work with the current backing plate. Can someone please confirm with me?

If you purchase this backing plate you can use the 6.5" pads, and you can also use it with smaller 5.5" pads (not meguiars) as well.

Do you know if the backing plate that comes with the DA polisher is the same as this?

No, they aren't the same. The one above is 4.75".

What you were told is correct. We don't recommend the W68DA backing plate (the one that ships with the G110v2) on our earlier generation pads due to it being too large in diameter for them. The W67DA backing plate imacarnut shows would be the correct backing plate for the earlier gen pads.

If you do some shopping around (autodetailingsolutions.com, detailing.com) you can find the Soft Buff 2.0 for less money. In fact, detailing.com is close enough to you that you can pick them up today (work schedule allowing - we don't want you calling in sick just to buy pads!).

Oh, by the way, we deleted your duplicate post in the "Consumer Line" section since your question is being handled here.

Mike, thanks for the info. I didn't know if detailing.com is near my work place. I think some of their prices is slightly lower than Amazon. Do they charge sales tax though?

BTW, can I attach with a smaller backing plate onto the DA polisher such as the W63 (3 inch backing plate) or does Meguiar sell a smaller polisher? I was gonna use it for polishing my rims.
