  • Mobile Detailing - During the winter?

Is there any way to make easier while doing mobile detailing during the winter? We have a few months untill the weather drops here in NY and I am wondering what do you guys do when temps drop below 50 degrees? Is there any kind of tent we can use to keep a small area warm while doing a detail outside in the cold?

    Help me out!!!

He said below 50, last time I checked the problems start closer to 32

50 degrees, winter?? Funny, we call that "October"

We don't take the boat out of the water until ice starts to form.

        Sorry......

Ok let me try that again, under 32 degrees! I have detailed in my garage when it was 32 degrees or less and I was freezing my *** off, I cant imagine doing it all outside!

You can get welding tents in all shapes and sizes, but that's a lot to pack around will require set-up time. You can heat them with a propane heater if you really want to.

I'd look at one of the mobile shelters that the detailers in California and warmer climates tend to favor and then put a tarp up on the side that the wind is blowing from.

Tough call. Maybe you could use the clients garage if you have to come to them.

Wouldn't there be problems with water freezing when the temperature really drops a lot

That's why you use a solution of ONR or DP Wash and Gloss.

                  Wipe on, wipe off, done.

I detail up to October. Most of my customers want there vehicle's waxed and prep for the winter season.

How is anyone cleaning the wheel wells with an ONR type product?

A scrub brush or wheel-well brush of sorts.

Of course it has it's limits, but for most normal details you can do a LOT with a rinseless wash.

When I use ONR, I go paint, wheels, wheel wells using my normal wheel and wheel well brushes. Pre-spraying with APC helps on the wells but they don't get as clean as using a hose.

As far as tires go, since they're my own vehicles, I use Meguiar's Hot Shine Tire Foam if they aren't too bad. It has some cleaning ability to it so even my white letters do end up a little better than they start out - again not as good as a typical 2 bucket and hose/foam gun wash but good enough when we're in the thick of a Chicago winter (or when I'm washing the truck in my hotel parking lot while working out of town for months on end).

I pre-spray with APC+ when doing the wheels / wheel wells. Not a perfect solution, but better than nothing!
