I need solid, clear cut advice.

No frills, I am not complaining or hollaring by any means, just need some no beating the bush advice.

My Megs microfibers are scratching the paint, without a doubt. They aren't soft to the touch as I think they should be. What did I do to them?

I buy them, take them home and wash them right away. Normal wash, with normal non bleach detergent. I dry them on medium until completely dry, no drier anti-static sheets or anything. Do I need to dry them on delicate cycle or something?

I always wash my microfibers separate from anything else.

What am I doing wrong here?

Try a rinse cycle with one cup of white vinegar, gentle cycle, warm or cold water, followed by a second rinse cycle with nothing added. Tumble dry low heat or air fluff.

Are you seeing this paint scratching only with our towels? Your description of how you care for the towels sounds perfectly fine. It could be that your paint is extremely delicate and you need a more gentle approach to how you're wiping on it. We've seen plenty of cases where people complain about working on a car with super delicate paint because even their final wipe off of the wax is inflicting marring to the paint. And they aren't necessarily using our towels, either.

Well, truthfully, I only have your towels. I don't own anything else besides some ADS towels they sent with my kit, that I use strictly as wheel towles since I don't trust anything but a megs towel from previous experience.

But that is exactly what happens, anything from drying(waffle weave) to final wipe and anything in between is marring my paint up.

On the other note, I always said GM has soft paint now days, and that a stiff breeze scratches them.

How do you do with applying products? Any marring from products?

Well, not really. That is why I think it is more towel based than anything. With my PC/LC pads and UC, 105, 205 etc..product applied great and came out show room shine. But I always had to back track a little because the towels would fine scratch a bit. Now, when washing and simple drying it is tearing the paint up. I'm not SUPER worried about it because the car looks awful already anyway. But when I decided to restore the paint again, I was solid advice on what to do with my towels this time.

Last time I checked, you should never Dry MF with any sort of heat. I have always used a NO heat, tumble till dry. When heat is introduced and even Med. heat is enough to dry wet/heavy clothes given enough time. They can melt the fibers in the MF which then can lead to scratches/swirls when pressure is applied.

IMO if you wash, allow to air dry (hang them some where), or tumble dry with no heat.



And yes I was all my MF, even cheapo Walmart stuff seperate and I take the REALLY soild ones and keep them seperate, or throw away.

If the strong products finish out well, the paint cant be too too soft.

I guess I will try air drying them or something. But for now, I have to rack up some more towels because I am convinced these are toast. They just don't feel right anymore. Thanks for the replies people!!

I agree with this, particularly if you are drying them to the point in which they are completely dry. They are after all MICRO fibers. It doesn't take much heat to to curl a micro fiber. Look how fast the lint on sock, or a hair curls up if you take a lighter to it. It may take longer for them to dry, but you're not really using power/gas other than the tumbling process, so it's no big deal.

I dry all my microfibers on high for a full cycle and they come out feeling softer than ever. No marring at all (at least, due to the heat from the dryer).
