Re: Hot Wheel cleaner damaged my caliper paint

I'm sure Meguiar's will sort this out. However, I see nothing wrong with the Meguiar's product. You were using a wheel cleaner that was "safe for all wheels". Were your wheels damaged?

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I also purchased the Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner in the red bottle.
      Sprayed them on my rims.

Same thing happened: The paint on all of my calipers on my new Infiniti have been dissolved. Now my calipers have blotches of dull iron in the spots that were in direct contact with your wheel cleaner. Instead of the original shiny metallic paint the factory uses for their calipers.

I am EXTREMELY disappointed and unsatisfied with your product. Now I need to repaint my calibers?

You can always dissasemble the caliper and repaint... maybe a cool flashy color is in order.

                  Cannibal,

This is understandably a frustrating situation for you. A public forum is not typically the best place to work through a particular damage claim but there could certainly be a benefit to some of our more experienced members giving their input on the subject of wheel cleaners and brake components in general. For those reading through this thread please feel free to share your experiences, advice, etc.

It should also be noted that there is a warning on the label of this product which states that it should not be used on aftermarket and/or painted brake components. This product is not the correct product for your vehicle, but we would be more than happy to send you a more mild wheel cleaner which would be safe on all wheel and brake types. Please feel free to pm or email me directly.
