Well, looks like i made a right decision to get my hand on Megs DA (i really love my 9227C though - produce great result when being used with common sense). While i'm not experienced in using DA at all (fact, i haven't use one to date), i feel there're must be something that all DA users are raving about. And "DA Buffing 101 – An Introduction to the G110v2 (and similar)" inspire me to get one. Planned to use it with M205 but with these "Ultimate" Polish & Wax things, I pretty sure i made a right decision to get my hand on a megs DA to accompany my trusty 9227C.

The bottle has a very sleek modern look to it ... is the Ultimate Compound going to be re-bottled into the same schema?

Hmmm... if it has polishing oils, its gonna fill up the minor swirls!

but after an IPA wipedown it'll remove the oils! so will swirls re-appear?

I kinda prefer to leave a perfect finish rather than filling up as after quite some time those filled in swirls re appear!

          Not at this time, no.

Any product that may leave something behind has the potential to fill, and an IPA wipedown will reveal those filled marks. But how you use any product is key. Remember, this product has SMAT abrasives so it will cut.

That will depend on the paint and what you're trying to accomplish. More often than not we would think a finishing pad would make the most sense.

Being derived from M205 it has that sort of consistency, not the thickness of SwirlX.

Ultimate Polish is not only a very different product to SwirlX, but it's obviously being positioned a bit differently as well. Rather than a less aggressive alternative to UC it's being looked at as a compliment or follow up to UC. SwirlX was never really looked upon that way in the market place. Obviously Ultimate Polish can be used as a light cleaner, or for use on very delicate paint systems, when UC is more aggressive than needed.
Haha "interesting life" - I certainly think the name Ultimate Polish will help to postion this product more in-line with what you are hoping. I imagine that this new product will contribute to diminished SwirlX sales and it may be difficult to hold on to shelf space for both products. ScratchX may better survive as it seems to be merchandised in a separate category and has a smaller container.

I was wondering about the removal. SwirlX and M07 can be difficult and I assumed this would be similar. If it is more like 205 to remove but with more oils and similar cleaning, it certainly has appeal. Assuming it looks good, the public should love it - including myself.

This is a great addition to the consumer line of compounds and polishes. It seems like you guys have complimented UC and SwirlX very well with this new polish. I was able to try this out on a few cars at the last TNOG, and it really impressed me. This polish has an extremely long working time and is a breeze to wipe off. It does have a noticeable amount of polishing oils and really seems to darken the paint. I think you guys at Meg's have a winner here. This should be a great product for user's armed with a DA polisher.

                    Mike,

I am still using up my M83 and M80. How does this compare with those? Should I trash them or use them as an initial cleaning step before using this. I am not a pro, just some one who takes care of his own cars.

                    Thanks,

To go along with 510Guy's comments...what the heck is Meguiar's up to with all of the product changes made over the past two or three years. Are they trying "to get it right"? Does this have anything to do with now being a part of the 3M "family". I'm about ready to just go back to using the burgundy bottle cleaner/wax four of five times a year and call it good enough. (Which for most folks really is "good enough".)

M80/M83 are still fantastic products so there's no need to toss them just because something new came out. If they're working well for you then by all means stay with them. But if you're working on modern clear coat finishes you may well find the SMAT abrasives can create a higher overall level of clarity to the finish.

Technology has advanced pretty quickly in the last few years, with the introduction of SMAT being one of the biggest changes to our line up. Prior to the advent of M105, our first full on SMAT compound, we used to use M80/M83 in our Saturday Detailing Classes. Why pro products for that class? Because our only consumer paint cleaner was Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, and it was extremely mild. So mild that it was easily overpowered by severe swirls, holograms, etchings, etc. But after we took the technology used in M105 and ported it down to Ultimate Compound and SwirlX, we suddenly had consumer products that offered more cut than M80/M83 and could more effectively, and more easily, remove these severe defects.

Now, Ultimate Polish borrows on similar technology, specifically M205, in an easy to buy and easy to use formula for consumer use.

With the older diminishing abrasives products it wasn't as easy to provide a very user friendly consumer product - rocks in a bottle doesn't cut it for consumer use! But SMAT allows us to offer up highly effective and incredibly safe products for the average consumer to use.

There is no "trying to get it right" and no influence from 3M - our R&D department continues to be completely separate from 3M except when we want to borrow and tweak their existing tech (abrasive films, adhesives) for our use.

That said, for a lot of people good ol' Cleaner Wax in the burgundy bottle is, just as you said, probably "good enough". And we base that assertion on the fact that Cleaner Wax continues to be one of the best selling waxes in the USA, even though it's been around since 1973 virtually unchanged!

Thanks for the reply. Good information. I'm almost out of NXT 2.0. I think that I can make it until the Ultimate comes out.
