    iPad posting test

I'll be posting from SEMA via iPad next week and this thread is just a test of the process involved. Feel free to comment if you like.

The images are hosted via Dropbox and are from the LA Concours two years ago

Looks good on all devices here, your "test spot" was successful. What is your work flow, will you be using the iPad Camera Connection Kit to upload photos?

Us stay at homes are looking forward to your mobile updates!!

    Re: iPad posting test

David, yes, I'll be using the camera connection kit to move photos from the DSLR to the iPad then upload them via DropBox since the iPad does not support direct uploading to forums or similar. There was a bit of a struggle to find a way to utilize JPG compression so as not to be uploading images in the 1.2 to 1.5MB size range, even downsized to 800x533 pixels. It seems the iPad doesn't support that either, but DropBox will do it for me automatically. This way I can post several images, each under 100kb in size - the alternative being a dozen or more images upwards of 1.5MB each which would mean all of you would be trying to download some 20MB or more just to view a post. Not very user friendly!!

I'll be using iResize on the iPad to take the images from their native size/format and reduce them to 800x533 - the interface for that is fantastic; you set the size you want, bring up a thumbnail collection of the image album you want and merely touch the thumbnails of the images you want to resize. But there is no JPG compression, hence the large file size.

All kinds of ways to do all of this if you have a full sized computer and iTunes with you, but I'm going to be going lightweight on the convention floor - iPad and a camera - DONE!

This little test proves it's going to work just fine. Heck, I did the initial post here using the 3G connection, not Wi-Fi. I thought that would be the ultimate test of fully remote functionality, and it succeeded. Good stuff!

Nice work flow. I wish PhotoShop Express had resize. Although moving photos from the Adobe web site to Meguiar's might be too time consuming for the number of photos you're going to move next week.

Yes, 3G on the iPad is as nice as WiFi, if not more convenient.

    Shoot away, 6 days!
