  • Re: D/A Microfiber System

Hey, I didn't see this question answered in the thread, or if it was I must've missed it, but can anyone tell me if this new MF system is as safe (if not safer) to use than the original foam pads for beginners?

Still being used on the DA, so it still has the safety of being run by that tool, but I'm guessing more cut = more chance to possibly "damage" your paint.

Yes, the huge safety factor is still there, no doubt about it. But cut is quicker so on older paints that might be very thin you could run into problems more quickly. But on otherwise healthy paint, it should be no more dangerous than foam pads on a D/A - assuming one isn't doing anything crazy!

Any chance this will be released before Christmas.

That is when I will be doing my next correction on the Camry.

            Very doubtful.

Now Mike, I've seen your Camry in person and I can assure you that you will NOT need this system to correct it. Seriously, if your Camry was in the sort of condition that this system is designed to correct, you would be freaking out. Literally.

For anyone else reading this, when Mike's black Camry Hybrid "needs correction" it looks like most cars after they've been corrected. Yes, Mike is a bit of a stickler for perfection - and we like that!!

That said, it may well be that the paint on the Camry is delicate enough that the Finishing Wax alone is all you'd need to remove the half dozen towel marks you probably have in it right now.

You know me too well Mike.

I really want want to get my hands on this new system though. I see it eliminating a bunch of other products and possibly even pads that are taking up room on my shelves and drawers.

As far as the Finishing Wax alone having enough cut to do the job on my Camry, that is too cool.

Maybe. Maybe. It all depends on the severity of defects (an admittedly comical notion given what I know about you and your car) and the overall softness of the paint.

Not long ago I used just the Finishing Wax on a Superformance Cobra (black with silver stripes) that had just some towel marks from routine wipedowns by the owner and it came out absolutely gorgeous. The primary program that day was a badly swirled SL55 AMG, black of course, that needed the full treatment. It, too, came out just stunning.

Your Camry we'd have to play with a bit.

Since January of 2004, here's the first thread... it's thread #5

Mini Coopers at Meguiar's NXT Generation Garage!

Threads 1, 2, 3, and 4 were removed as they were you typical "Test" posts before the forum went live.

There's a few pictures missing from this thread but I think I can find them and get Mike Stoops to re-insert them.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Since this system "really likes" hard paint, does that mean it may be a little more prone to marring/hazing on "soft" paint?

Very soft paint may haze very noticeably with the compound and cutting pad, but the finishing wax and finishing pad clears it up very quickly. If the paint is so incredibly soft that it's just always prone to D/A haze, then a final application of the finishing wax by hand may be needed. You'd still use the finishing pad but with it attached to one of our hand applicator tools.

A few months ago I did a Superformance Cobra for a gentleman and used nothing but the finishing wax/pad. I had corrected this car several months ago but in the time since then he'd managed to put some towel marks in it during routine wipe downs. The paint on this car is quite soft and a quick test spot proved that this was all it was going to take to return the car to darn near perfection. 20 minutes later it looked like I'd spent hours on the darn thing.
