    Pictures from November 6th, 2010

This was our last Saturday Class of the year and we had a great class with the perfect car to work on!

Derek let us use his Infiniti G35 Coupe as our demonstrator - it definitely needed some help!

After removing all the loose dust from the surface, we clayed the hood. It wasn't horrible, but it definitely needed a good clay treatment before moving on to the below surface defects.

We then taped off the hood into a couple of sections so we could do test spots both by hand and with the G110v2. Our first test by hand was with SwirlX but it didn't have quite enough power to remove the severity of defects presented by this car, so we stepped up to Ultimate Compound. Had the defects been just very light on this car, we feel SwirlX would have been sufficient to correct the situation. The paint here wasn't exactly what you'd classify as "hard" but the defects were certainly severe.

After working UC vigorously against the paint, we wiped it off immediately. Remember, paint cleaners like UC should be wiped off right away and not allowed to dry on the paint.

We followed UC with our new Ultimate Polish in order to refine the finish even further.

Finally, we topped it all off with a thin coat of our new Ultimate Wax.

We then moved on to the machine application test spot, again with UC.

Just as with the hand application side, we followed with Ultimate Polish and Ultimate Wax. When applying these products with the G110v2 we used a fresh W9207 finishing pad for each.

Unfortunately the weather started turning on us and the cloud rolled in while we were working in the garage so our half and half images aren't as dramatic as usual. Still, the difference was huge - the swirls were gone, the paint was noticeably darker and richer, and it felt incredibly smooth.

We then cut everyone loose and let them finish off the hood on Derek's G35.

Here's what happens when you don't put the pad firmly against the paint before switching on the tool.

After everyone buffed out the hood the sun actually broke back through and we got some full sun shots of the completely finished hood.

As an added bonus, we had one attendee comment on a nasty scuff on the door of his 3 Series BMW and wanted to know if we could take a look at it.

A little UC on a W8207 polishing pad and it was gone. Piece of cake.

All in all, a great way to finish off the year!

Ultimate Polish and Ultimate Wax look like a real keeper! I know this is a slipperly-slope kind of question but what is the filling ability of Ultimate Polish and Ultimate Wax? I like products that fill quite a bit.

I love that you can get people who have never used a DA before and they can make a hood turn out so beautifully!

      The magic of Meguiar's!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
      Remove swirls my friends.

We had a small private stash in a lab sample bottle and thought it might be fun to try out. It was.

Check the home page pix of the gawker holding the wire for the young lady using the DA. I'm quite sure his undivided attention was focused on the car.
