  • Feedback of a Newbie

As someone that has been reading this site for over two years and making the occasional comment, I wanted to take a moment to try and contribute back to the forum. I have inventoried the items I have purchased over the last two years since I started reading here. I have included my feedback as someone that is not a professional detailer and is working only to maintain my own personal automobiles.

First, I’ll start with the non-meguiar’s items I use:
    Hose: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_07169602000P
    Pros – Stays very flexible.
    Cons – Kinks easily.
    Recommend - Yes

    Nozzle: http://www.amazon.com/Nelson-Multi-P...ef=pd_sbs_ol_4
Pros – I like the one click on/off trigger; has several useful spray patterns.
Cons – Has some patterns that are of no use.
Recommend – Yes. Bear in mind, have not used anything other than the brass twist nozzle, so not much to compare. I do prefer the trigger on off versus the twist.

Buckets: I use two five gallon buckets from Home Depot.
    Pros: Cheap
Cons: Seems like this is a business opportunity for Meguiar’s to put out buckets with their logo and also labeled as wash/rinse. I recommend a light color as it makes it easy to see how much grit the Grit Guards are keeping off the paint.
Recommend: As mentioned above, I like a light color to make it easier to see grit. I use two different colors (one white and one orange) to help me keep track of wash and rinse.

Dolly: I use this two bucket dolly: http://www.amazon.com/Two-Bucket-Dolly/dp/B0031AJN7C
Pros: Makes dragging two buckets around a lot easier.
Cons: Would like to see some sort of handle to pull this around. Would also like holes that would fit the Meg’s spray bottles.
    Recommend: Yes
Creeper Stool: I use this one: http://www.amazon.com/Torin-Heavy-Du...878355&sr=8-10
Pros: This is a must have for cleaning wheels/tires and buffing the side panels (for us old guys anyway).
Cons: Would like to see something with the Meg’s logo on the seat.
    Recommend: Yes

Vacuum: I have this Rigid vac: http://www.homedepot.com/Tools-Hardw...atalogId=10053
    Pros: Great suction
Cons: Big, hose feels like cheap thin plastic.
    Recommend: Yes

    Lug Brush: http://www.autodetailingsolutions.ne...nut-brush.html
Pros: Easy to use; cleans an area that is otherwise hard to clean.
    Cons: None
    Recommend: Yes

    Tire Brush: http://www.autodetailingsolutions.net/85-808.html
Pros: Very easy to use, durable and I have not seen any scratching of the rims.
    Recommend: Yes

Now on to the Meguiar’s items, for these I am not including a link as everyone knows exactly to what I am referring:

Grit Guards: These are a must have item. They work as advertized; use color buckets and see what is at the bottom.
    Pros: They work.
    Cons: None
    Recommend: Yes

Waxes/Sealants: I have used NXT 2.0 and #26. To me, I really do not see a difference. I continue to use NXT as it is said to be more durable.
Pros: Easy on and off; looks great
    Cons: Stains Trim
Recommend: I plan on switching to Ultimate Wax once available as it is said to last longer and not stain trim.

Washes: I have used Ultimate Wash and Wax, NXT, and Gold Class. Gold Class feels the slickest to me and is what I am using.
    Pros: They all work great.
    Cons: None
Recommend: They all work great; I am using Gold Class as it feels slickest.

Ultimate Quick Wax: This one is classified as my MVP of the Meg’s lineup.
Pros: Easy to use and works great. I use after every wash if I am not going to wax.
Cons: Need to release the custom spray bottle for the X-Press Synthetic Spray Wax!
    Recommend: Yes

Last Touch: This is my second favorite Meg’s product.
Pros: Easy to use. I use this every day I do not wash to keep the car looking great. In just about 15 minutes, my car looks like I wash it every day. Also used a clay lube.
    Cons: None.
    Recommend: Yes

Quick Interior Detailer: I use ultimate protectant once a month; use this every other time.
Pros: Great to get the dust off.
Cons: Need to release the gallon size.
    Recommend: Yes

    Ultimate Protectant:
Pros: Great for interior and exterior trim
Cons: I think I would prefer a spray bottle.
Recommend: Will switch to the trigger spray version.

    NXT Insane Shine Tire Spray
    Pros: Tires look great
Cons: Sling, hard for me to use spray without getting it all over my rims.
Recommend: I am going to switch to the new Endurance gel when it comes out.

    Rich Leather Gel:
Pros: Works great on perforated seats.
Cons: Would prefer a trigger spray version
Recommend: Will switch to the trigger version of the Meguiar’s Leather Conditioner

Cleaners/Compounds/Polishes: I have used M105, M205, UC, SwirlX, ScratchX, ColorX, M66, and M07. While all of these work great, I do not feel I need them all in my arsenal someone only doing my own cars. With regard to M07, I cannot really say I saw a difference, perhaps as my cars are relatively new and in good shape. In my opinion, I can get by with only Ultimate Compound, SwirlX, and M66. I should note that I did not include ColorX in the must have list as I use the product so much, I switched to M66 for the gallon size. This is actually one of my favorite Meg’s products and I use it every time that I am going to wax without doing a serious paint correction.

    G110V2:
Pros: Great machine. I use it to apply and remove wax as well as for correction.
Cons: I read things about reliability that worry me, but, knock on wood, no problems for me yet.
    Recommend: Yes

    Soft Buff 2.0 Pads:
Pros: Work great; washing machine safe
    Cons: None
    Recommend: Yes

    Supreme Shines/Water Magnet
    Pros: Work Great.
    Cons: None
    Recommend: Yes

    D120 Glass Cleaner:
Pros: Economical to use, smells great. This stuff works so well and is so economical, I use it for regular cleaning around the house too; never buy the old ammonia based blue stuff anymore.
    Cons: None
Recommend: Buy a second spray bottle for this one so you have one to keep in the house and one for the cars out in the garage. You will no longer buy any other glass cleaner for the house.

    All Purpose Cleaner Plus:
Pros: Cleans great; I use this when any interior items need to be cleaned, versus a quick dusting using the Quick Interior Detailer.
    Con: None
    Recommend: Yes

    Super Degreaser:
Pros: Great for cleaning the engine bay.
    Cons: None
    Recommend: Yes

    D171 Water Based Dressing:
Pros: Great for dressing all rubber items in the engine bay.
    Cons: None
    Recommend: Yes

    Oder Eliminator:
    Pros: Clean, not overpowering scent.
    Cons: Smell did not last.
    Recommend: No

    Mild Detailing Clay
Pros: Great prep before waxing; gets the surface totally smooth. I like the jar for storing the clay as well.
    Cons: None
    Recommend: Yes

Thanks for this rundown of your arsenal.

Recently added APC, APC+, and Super Soap and I look forward to adding more from the Detailer and Professional lines.

Of course, looking forward to the new 2011 products.

Thanks again for taking the time to present this list.

Hey Meguiars! If you decide to go in on this idea, add gallon markers on the inside and a small reservoir cup along the rim with ounce markers for car wash or ONR measurements. Kinda like the the little bleach reservoir in washing machines. Add a thumb-release drain to empty the soap/ONR into the bucket, or make the reservoir cup detachable, and you will have a hot seller!

Very good idea. It would probably sell like hot cakes.

I have to agree on UQW and Last Touch; two must have products.

Nice list with some great feedback - had to have taken you quite a bit of time to put together, and we really do appreciate that.

But this one item really stood out:

Now, a nice hight adjustable creeper stool is a big plus over this one, but the cup holder on this one is simply brilliant! No, not because we all need someplace to keep our RedBull when detailing! It's the perfect place to hold a secondary bottle (ketchup type bottle) of product without it rolling away from you, or you rolling away from it while working. Great idea!

                Re: Feedback of a Newbie

One thing I left off was the Meguiar's wash mitt. My feedback on this is that I love the fact that it is white, easily shows anything picked up in the mitt. On the negative side, I would rather see it as a covered sponge type product rather than a mitt; I never wear it like a glove and am not crazy about the collar material rubbing on the paint.
