    Re: Meguiar's Odor Eliminator Review

    theRDRman,

Just would like to offer some friendly advice and a bit of constructive criticism.

Keep in mind, I'm no expert and have no talents, but like everyone else I've viewed a fair number of videos and movies over the years. I don't have any practical skills, just a critic's eye. So this is IMHO...so to speak.

Might I suggest improving the introductory poster boards. Your video editing software seems to do just fine with titles. You could use those for your introductions or perhaps use something like Photoshop to create static frames with your opening credits place over them. Even a freeze frame on the product, while you have titles shown. It's obvious you can make a professional style video, but your initial poster boards don't reflect that.

Some of your backgrounds detract from the product you are trying to "advertise". In one of your videos you had a striped blanket or quilt as a background. That was visually confusing. You have a perfect one in this video it is at about 2:15. It shows the product on the perfect background. A location the product would actually be used, it is not loud and striped, color is complementary to the product bottle and it was not visually confusing.

When you move in and out on the product bottle, the camera loses focus. The focus range of the camera is limited and can't focus during those movements. This blurry effect reminds us old folks of the 1970's and psychedelic drug trip movies. Get the product in focus and use your zoom in or zoom out function, if your camera has one. This will keep the product in focus and yet still get the point across you are trying to make.

If you can afford one and you're going to continue to make videos, invest in a tripod or even a monopod, this will make some of your video more stable. Although some camera motion is also desirable, but move slower than you think you should. It will look just fine when the video is viewed. Moving too quickly can lead to motion sickness in some of your viewers. A tripod will help immensely with your product shots too. Check out some of the Junkman videos, he uses a tripod a lot.

Find areas that are just a bit brighter. Your glass cleaner review video was just a bit dark. If you need the darker scenes to emphasize the product or your use of the product, great; however mix that in with some well lit scenes too. Cut out the scenes that don't add sense to the video. The scene of the ground as you walked didn't add materially to the video, although I'm sure you may have needed this time to complete your commentary. I'm sure your video editing software allows you to cut out video and maintain audio. Paste the audio over a still frame or a transition.

Meguiar's and Meguiar's Asia have many great product and training videos and I'm sure you've probably seen many of them. Or even Mike Phillips has many videos. Look at them again with a critical videographer's eye and you'll see what I mean.

You're doing a great job and we look forward to more of your productions!!
