  • "Mild" soap

I just picked up a Pontiac Solstice, and trying to find info on how the top should be cleaned. I checked the Meguiar's website, it says that for canvas type tops, Meguiar's doesn't have anything specific so talk to the manufacturer. The car owner's manual calls for a "mild" soap, so I'm wondering does that mean I should just use the same car wash soap I use to wash the car? I generally use Deep Crystal and planning to move on to Gold Class next.

A regular car was hsoap like Gold Class or Deep Crystal would be safe.

If you needed deeper cleaning, Meguiars has a new convertible top cleaner coming out this spring.

Yeah I saw the new one, but I don't think it'll be in Canada in the near future.

Maybe about time to make a trip to the States again...

i would recommend a product called Raggtop. This comes highly recommended in the miata community. They make a cleaner and a protectant

For regular washing any of our car wash soaps are perfectly fine for use on a canvas convertible top.

Perfectly fine? Not sure I'd settle for that on my convertible. Go with the suggested RaggTopp product and be sure to not only get the cleaner but the protectant too. The difference between a well maintained cloth top and one that is simply washed needs to be seen to believe.

I think if you're looking for the mildest wash from Meguiars, buy yourself a bottle of Soft Wash Gel Smells good, too

Perhaps I should have said "Perfect"? I've been using Gold Class, NXT and Super Soap on the canvas top of my Crossfire for almost 4 years, never a problem. For routine washing that's really all you need. No doubt that regular use of some sort of protectant, whether 303 or RaggTopp is a great idea, but for routine washing you don't really need anything "special". I've been using RaggTopp on mine since we stopped making our Canvas Protectant from our Marine/RV Line.

Now, if you get some staining on it and need a more potent clean up, 303, RaggTopp and Meguiar's all make dedicated convertible top cleaners.
