Interesting pad on that Dewalt. Is that the new top secret Cut, Polish & Finish, All In One buffing pad system?

OK, we might have had a small class yesterday, but those in attendance were no less enthusiastic than any other group we've ever had. Besides, when the day starts out with a BMW M5, Lamborghini Gallardo and Porsche Turbo rolling in, you know you're going to have a good time!!

While those cars did exhibit some light swirling, they just weren't the best candidates for our demo car. But this roughly 15 year old pickup truck was. Jesse just acquired this truck a couple of days ago, and apparently some heavy solvent had been wiped over the hood. It was a disaster, to say the least. But hey, we're always up for a challenge, so what the heck!

Those wipe marks are from the solvent, not just wiping a towel over a dirty surface. Quik Detailer would clean up simple wipe marks, and clay would remove anything stuck to the surface. This was something entirely different and, quite frankly, a bit scary.

So after class we got down to it with Jesse's truck. This is from claying an area maybe 6" x 12", and it's not everything from that area either!

We got the guys to work on claying the rest of the hood.

The level of contamination was so bad, however, that we decided to break out the C2100 Aggressive Professional Clay to speed things up.

From there it was on to our standard demo - hand application of Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish, Ultimate Wax on one section, G110v2 application of the same three products on an adjacent section.

Once done with the test spots, we rolled the truck back out into the sunlight and evaluated our progress. Not too shabby, huh? The paint is once again clear, reflective, and glossy. Sure, there are some really severe defects that aren't going to come out of this paint with mere buffing - it is, after all, suffering 15 years of neglect. But look at that difference!!

Of course we couldn't let Jesse go home with just a couple of glossy areas on the hood, so the guys jumped in and finished it off for him. We let Jesse take the first pass.

Man the finish looked horrible on that truck before the detail! Way to go guys!
