It's wide open now, Nick, feel free to post anything you've done with the system, whether that means mixing and matching liquids or not. Just, please, don't tell us you're cleaning leather seats in classic Maserati's with it!!!

I'll be purchasing all of these for sure. It seems like a great system and I can't wait to get it to use on my customers cars.

Sounds great as everyone has mentioned. What about combatting water spots? This is a problem for me more than swirls. M105 on the polishing pad doesn't help me much with water spots so hopefully this might do better (yes I wash proper at dusk and clay when needed). Type 2 water spots are such a pain...

My question, which seems obvious, is that we all know when applying a sealant you want to apply it to clean wax free paint. If using the finishing wax in this system and since it has carnauba in it, wouldn't you be cutting the durability of the sealant you use if you're putting it on top of the finishing wax?

That totally depends on the sealant. While some manufacturers will stress that you only apply their products to a "perfectly clean surface" free of other waxes, polishes, etc we have never said that about our waxes and sealants. That said, if you have a favorite sealant that you want to use and are making use of this system as well, you have a couple of options:

                • Do the correction with D300 Compound and the Cutting Disc, follow with D301 Finishing Wax and the Finishing Disc to refine the finish, then give it an IPA wipedown and then apply your fave sealant
                • Do the correction with D300 Compound and the Cutting Disc, follow with M205 on a foam finishing pad, (or any other finishing polish you might like) and then top with your sealant

I just bought some 205 a few week ago so that's perfect. Thank you.

I remember seeing in one of the reviews that this system was used on a boat (looked like a show boat) Any idea how it will work on gelcoat that has actually been outside Is Meguiar's working on compounds for the marine line to work hand in hand with the pads?

Does d300 or 301 stain trim? Do we need to tape up the plastic trim? Also I have a 6" GG. Which size pad: 5" or 6"?

While the system does tend work very well on gel coat, that surface can pose some interesting challenges at times. As you probably know, gel coat is not only much thicker and harder than automotive paint, it's also a lot more porous. If the gel coat is very old and badly oxidized and dried out, it may draw a lot of the lubricant out of the D300 and dry it up. That's probably only going to happen in extreme cases, and will be similar to using some of our Marine/RV products on such a "worst case" finish. An initial application of M45 Pure Polish first may help in those situations.

Yes, they will stain trim so taping off is recommended. But another nice thing about these discs is that you can easily get right up against edges, trim, lights etc without tending to overlap them like you do with a foam pad. If you're using the Griot's D/A, stick with the 5" discs on their standard backing plate. You can also use the 6" discs but we would then recommend moving up to our S6BP backing plate.

I did some experimenting with backing plates on the Griot's machine, and found that the W67DA backing plate works the best with this machine. The 6" is just too big for the DA, works soooooo much better using the 5" platform!

Will the larger pads work with the old hook & loop backing plate that came with my G-100 from circa 1999? (Yes, I still have that plate, and it still works fine )

You shouldn't have any problems with that circa 1999 backing plate.

                              Frugal, aren't you?!

Is the diameter of the 3" backing plate exactly 3"?
