I think Meguiar's stance on this is 4-5 drops, but I've found that it works better with about 1-2 pea sized drops. Just play with it and see what you like better. Everyone has different tastes, so what works for me, may not work for you.

I've only used it once so far. But I'm in agreement with two drops AFTER the pad is primed. I am very pleased with the results and how easy it is to use.

We would certainly expect better results with less product rather than more - ie, just a couple drops rather than a full "X" or ring of product. 4-5 drops is really the maximum we want to see you using as over use of product is probably the fastest way to fail with this system. That and short cycling the product.

Use just a small amount, work it for a good long time, and clean the discs often.

Hey Mike, has anyone experimented with trying UC with the Micro discs. I was wondering since I've seen some play around with 105 on them.

I apologize for not answering you, when you asked me this question on another thread

I haven't tried UC, actually I don't even have any of that product. So I believe Mike is much more educated about this question than I am. But I believe it would probably work just fine(depending on the paint). However, the DA Compound this system is designed to work with, is a great product, and VERY easy to use!

The 16oz bottles from ADS aren't too expensive at all. Plus, if you're taking care of other vehicles, it's a good idea to have a few products to select from. Don't limit yourself to just one product. Sometimes it can get a little confusing, having more products to chose from. But it's very nice to have choices. The DA Compound is a great product, and finishes out extremely well!

Re: Using Meguiar's D/A Microfiber Correction System

It's been made very clear that the DA MF is geared for factory paint. Is it the pad, product, or both?

Also, could the same be said for UC, UP, M105, M205, that they're geared for factory paint? Just want to distinguish some differences.

Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish, being consumer products, have a much broader range in mind.

M105, strictly speaking, is a "universal compound" designed for all paint systems. But it's direct target is aftermarket "fresh" paint being buffed with a rotary buffer and wool pad. Obviously it's a hugely popular DA applied product on factory cured paint - so much so that we tweaked the formula a year or so after introduction to better accommodate that user.

Remember that when we gear a product for a specific use (ie, the DA Microfiber System being recommended for factory cured paint), that recommendation is based on what you might call an "acceptable success rate". What that really means is, taking all variables into account, if you were to plot out a bell curve based on results, that bell curve has to encompass a broad enough range in order for us to consider the product "acceptable" for that application. So if a new product works 85% of the time (and don't take that number as gospel, it's just being used here for demonstration purposes!!!) on factory paint, then we'll release the product as being recommended for use on factory paint. But if it only works 60% of the time, that isn't a high enough success rate on that surface for us to recommend it that way. Same goes for success rates on rotary vs DA, or rotary vs hand. Which is why some of our compounds (M105 for example) are rated for rotary, DA and hand while others (M84) are rotary only.

And it's because of all the variables that we, and you, see odd cases of a great product failing miserably, or another product performing brilliantly in a situation where we wouldn't necessarily expect it to.

Great question! I had wondered the same.

Hey all, sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm a beginner and I'm thinking of getting this system with my first D/A. When you say to clean the pad after each section, do you mean each 2' x 2' section or a section such as the hood. Thanks.

It is recommended to clean it after a section pass like finishing a 2' x 2' section as you said. This is a very important factor in getting amazing results with the MF system.

Re: Using Meguiar's D/A Microfiber Correction System

I did a little test to see how far you could go with one pad and it lasted quite a while on one vehicle cleaning with a brush after each section (2x2). Compressed air and a brush would probably be the best bet as the compound seems to clump up towards the bottom of the fibers after heavy use. A few squirts of water while cleaning would probably help get rid of the clumps. I'm wondering if I could use Quik Detailer to mist the pad occasionally to aid cleaning. I've got tons in my arsenal. Doesn't hurt I love to smell this stuff anyway.

The starter kit comes with 2 of each pad so you should switch them out if one isn't cutting properly. Wash the dirty one and continue with the second. I may be wrong but I don't see where switching back to the first pad while slightly damp would hurt while washing the second when it needed it.

I've used this system on 2 vehicles so far with white GM factory paint and a panel resprayed by my local body shop. Just the D300 and cutting pad took out the swirls and buffed to a high shine. Didn't even go to D301, straight to M21. I'm working on a dark colored Mazda and a dark Buick in the next week and a half so I can give some more input later.

I did this as the backing started separating on one pad so I was stuck finishing the job with just the 2nd. I found the fibers loading up again in the same places even after washing. Possibly using too much product although I thought I was using it sparingly. ::shrug::

I went straight to LSP after D300/cutting on GM white as well. Looks great. I'll be experimenting with the Finishing Wax but it seemed moot at the time as the finish appeared flawless and I wanted to use 845IW.

FWIW, stouter defects that the MF/D300 didn't take out after a couple of passes were removed in one pass with D300 & PFW. The ease of use and clean wipeoff of D300 is going to have me relegating M105 to the back of the detailing cabinet.
