  • Any step between 2000 gr block and CC Safe polishing compound?

OK, a couple of weeks ago, I had to fill in a chip in my bike's fuel tank and today I leveled it with a very wet 2000 block and a drop of car wash. It worked wekk enough, but left a dull surface that I couldn't seem to get out with Meguiar's

BTW, the tank is BLACK. Ugh..

The Polishing Compound is very mild stuff so it's no big surprise that, working by hand especially, it didn't remove the sanding marks. At the very least you'd want to use the Clear Coat Safe Rubbing Compound, and then follow that with the Polishing Compound. But overall you may have better luck with Ultimate Compound.

But for a best case scenario when removing sanding marks - M105, wool pad, rotary buffer. But we get the feeling you aren't looking to invest in a pro power tool just to repair this chip. Go with Ultimate Compound, then follow with the Polishing Compound if need be to refine the finish even further.

I ended picking up the CC Safe Rubbing compound, and worked it for a while before switching to the polish. It looks great for a beginner!! You're right, I wasn't going to invest in the power tool for this, but I've got an '00 Blazer that would benefit from a really good cleaning up, so I just may pick one up anyways. Meguiar's products and staff are the best! THANK YOU!
