  • How to correct this car?

Dear friends, Im new on this forum, discovered it some months ago when I bought my first car, a 2001 Ford Focus (Im from Brazil, we have the EU Spec here)

So.....basically its been neglected for 10 years, it has a TRUCKLOAD of swirls

I bought two PAINT RESTORATION KITs and one bootle of liquid NXT

I already use the correct washing method since I bought the car

With the products I have available (which I already mentioned), what should I do?

    Thank you

Well, if you have clay, that would be a great first step. If not, bust out a foam pad, and do a test spot and see how the Ultimate Compound does.

Likely will be best if you take a before pic, work on it a little, then take an after, and post results. We maybe can help a little then if needed.

Keep in mind working by hand kind of *****, so dont plan on really fixing the whole car in one day.

I'm afraid you need a full cycle:

      1. Wash
      2. Clay
      3. Clean
      4. Polish
      5. Protect/ Wax.

After you wash and clay your car do a test spot with Ultimate Compound.

For polishing step Deep Crystal Polish or M07 Show Car Glaze would be good. Follow with your favorite wax to protect the surface.

Will you be using a car polisher?

About claying, I only have 3 (one from each paint restoration kit, and one a friend of mine gave me) very little clay bars

Will they be enought to clay the entire car?

I will be working by hand

It depends on the amount of bonded contaminants above paint surface. Vehicles parked outdoors tend to have more of those. Constant reshaping is needed to expose fresh parts of a clay bar.

If you ever accidentally drop a clay bar on the floor/ ground throw it out. It will pick up all the dirt and scratch your paint.

Hey ReaperX, I'm from Brazil too. The more experienced members can correct me if i'm wrong, but If you need a polish after using Ultimate Compound you can try Ultimate Polish or M80.

Where did you buy your Paint Restoration Kit ?

It's nice to know that people from Meguiars speak different languages. Does anyone speak Filipino?

Re: How to correct this car?

I do, and i'm very good at it! yep, kidding aside i do speak filipino. Nice thing about this is no matter where you're from, shared passion for cars and keeping one's car looking its best brings out the best in us, interact with peoply from all over the world..

I am a meguiars user, i also use other brands. Meguiars is a good brand, whether its the best, well i don't know.. but i like it very much, it consistently gives me good results. I also like (and used) mothers polishes.

Megs taught me alot of things, and i'm now able to get great results from megs even if its not a "boutique" or ultra high end wax.

Ultimate compound, i think is part of the paint restoration kit. Do a test spot, apply it or work it in until you're left with a wet/clear factor.. it should be removed WHILE WET. Same with swirlX.. If your working by hand, it will be hard work! Take your time, do a small section at a time, you'll still get excellent results even by hand.

Clay bars usually last up to 10(?) cars if the contaminants aren't that abundant.

After claying and cleaning, apply a polish or glaze (megs #7 or DC2) then apply your favorite megs wax.

Sit back, relax (you will get tired after, but its worth it), admire your work. I;ve used Ultimate compound on our black SUV, applied Glaze, then NXT. all by hand! it went really well.. the results?

                          !

                            Hello Reaper,

If you think 3 bars are not enough, Geral ferramentas in Brazil sells 3M 200g Clay bar for only BRL$36. You will find it as "pasta abrasiva 3M". I use on my car.

Good luck on your car !

Good to Know Rodrigo, are they just as mild as Meguiar's ?

ReaperX, the only thing not included in the Paint Restoration Kit is a mild polish/ glaze to use after Ultimate Compound.

Congratulations on the kit, i'm buying one myself from ProperAutoCare.
