Pictures from Thursday Night Open Garage - March 31st, 2011

Well, we started out a bit slow last night, but then things got crazy busy! The new DA Microfiber Correction System is a huge hit and everyone wants to get their hands on it and try it out.

We got going with Henry and his '86 Mercedes SL with original factory paint. As yo can imagine, paint that old is going to have some issues, especially if it hasn't been babied it's whole life.

First off, the car was in serious need of claying!

We quickly determined that the paint on this SL is single stage, so we decided to go at with a fairly traditional approach. We started with Ultimate Compound to cut through the oxidation and other defects and fond we needed two passes to get decent results. We then followed up with a single pass of M80 Speed Glaze since these single stage paint just love M80. We then did a couple hand applications of M07 Show Car Glaze, and finished up with M26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax.

As you can imagine, a couple passes of UC, a pass of M80, hand application of M07 and M26 takes a bit of time, even just for a test spot. So a discussion followed and we thought, what the heck, let's give the DA Microfiber Correction System a quick shot and see how it does.

Well, after a single pass of D300/DMC5 we could immediately tell that this was the way to go. Quite honestly, we were stunned. The level of defect correction with a single pass of the DA Microfiber Correction System exceeded that of UC x2 + M80 x1. The paint was still a bit hazy and not as deep and rich looking as the section we did with M07/M26 as a follow up, but we still hadn't hit it with the D301/DMF5..... but when we did, oh boy! The final result, 2 steps vs 5 steps, was astonishing. In literally a quarter of the time we had the results the car owner was looking for.

While we played around with the SL there was other activity taking place too. Dick used the DA Microfiber System to remove some fine scratches and swirls from his big Caddy SUV.

Others were outside putting a fresh coat of wax on their car.

Others took the DA Microfiber System to still more vehicles!

Our man Nick Winn gives a quick lesson on claying.

After a quick lesson on using the DA Microfiber System on this Acura, everyone was all smiles looking at the before/after results. When Nick Chapman tells you he's having fun detailing cars in Texas with this system, you know he's not alone after looking at all these happy faces!

In no time at all, the finish on the Acura went from mess to bliss.

DA Microfiber Correction System wins again.

And only 2 steps needed versus 5 traditional steps.

Another fun detailing at Meguiar's Garage.

P.S.: I think Nick's proper claying technique made a big difference in final results as well.

You can try out anything you want to try out, but we don't usually have time for someone to fully detail their car.

                  Hello Mike,

WOW. Thanks for taking the time to explain all the different products, techniques, and most of all hands on experience in such a great environment. I have some questions after the amazing transformation of my black 05' Acura TL trunk lid. What size pad were we using? I could not wait any longer so I pulled the plug and bought a GG6 polisher, Megs DA MF Correction system from ADS, and a few pads - Soft Buff Yellow, Black. I'm going use the MF system to finally finish out the Black Acura TL. As for my NSX with soft paint I believe I will try yellow pad with D151 and topped with NXT2.0. I will also use the "Snake Bitten" solution as a reference to maintain the paint high gloss. I wanted to find out if the Meg backing plate for the G110v2 will fit the GG6? If so, I wanted to get the 5" bp with 5" MF pads to work with my GG6.

Thanks again for an awesome time.

                  -Chad

ps. 1st time I ever used a DA before.

                    Chad,

Our backing plate will fit the 5/16'' male for your new D/A. You would want our W67DA Backing Plate with DMC5 Cutting Disc and DMF5 Finishing Disc. Use the DMC5 at 4800opms and the DMF5 at 3800 opms.

                      Hello Nick,

Excellent!!! Thanks for the info. That is exactly what I ordered. Thanks again for lending a hand yesterday on my daily driver. I can not believe how easy it was to correct that "mess". I already have a few car details lined up...haha I wish I had a little bit more time to test some other products but hopefully I'll make it out to another TNOG.

                      Thanks,
                      Chad.

So I take it the new microfiber system put more luster in the Mercedes single stage paint then the M80 and M7. I assume this stands to reason the new microfiber products would add some oils to dried out paint, correct??

Sorry I read it closer and noticed it says the single stage paint was hazy after the correction compoud compared to the M80/M7, but after the D301 finishing wax the results were "astounding", Im assuming it was as much or more shiny then the traditional products, which would stand to reason the D301 can moisturize dry paint?
